White House unveils cyber ID proposal

The White House unveiled a plan on Friday designed to boost confidence and business in cyberspace through the creation of a single, secure online credential.

"By making online transactions more trustworthy and better protecting privacy, we will prevent costly crime, we will give businesses and consumers new confidence, and we will foster growth and untold innovation," President Barack Obama said in a statement.

"That's why this initiative is so important for our economy," Obama said.

The National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC) proposes the creation of secure and reliable online credentials that would be available to consumers who want to use them.

It would be private-sector driven and participation would be voluntary.

The "identity ecosystem" would involve the use of a single credential -- unique software on a smartphone, a smart card or a token that generates a one-time digital password, for example, -- and would eliminate the need to remember multiple passwords.

What part of being a free people do these socialist not understand?

I would rather live in a world were I might be cheated doing business with someone then in a world where my every act, thought or word was being traced by the government.

Yet another stealth move towards totalitarianism by Obama.

I will not comply.

Sad commentary on how far we have fallen when every new proposal brought forth by this administration strikes abject fear in me when I read it.

As I understand it, hackers not only CAN hack .. they WILL, just for the sheer fun of it.

NOTHING is perfect, no system nor program, and all the pseudo-idealogical programs and laws the gummint puts in are nothing more than further enslavement.

WOLVERINES !!

One-stop hacking!

RSA keys just got hacked.

So if a thousand very sharp programmers put this one-stop government ID key together in 10,000 man-hours, what a target! There will be a million hackers, professional and otherwise, who will put a billion hours into cracking it.

I suspect the reason for this has nothing to do with commerce, and lots to do with knowing the person behind this post you are reading right now, and the people who are reading it right now.

Imagine knowing that if you start to get a little out of control, the Powers That Be can have ACORN and SEIU outside your house chanting within a half-hour of hitting “Post”.

From the people who brought you the Libyan Invasion Plan:

Hey, Libya policy is doing exactly what it was designed to do: Leave Qaddafi in power.

The success of which makes Barry's internet plans of great concern.

Well, that is another way of looking at it that is even more depressing, I'll grant you that.

I forsee scads of "Acorn" types on spending sprees with their new found "cyber-ID wealth".

Of course, no one will know how it happened but the tax payers will be left holding the bag again.
