Federal wildlife officials say they will take more than 1,300 gray wolves in the Northern Rockies off the endangered species list within 60 days.

It marks the first time Congress has taken a species off the endangered list.

Idaho and Montana plan public wolf hunts this fall. Hunts last year were canceled after a judge ruled the predators remained at risk.

I doubt it as the populations are transitory at this point. In Oregon, the State tried to plan for the future by getting the interested parties(eco-freaks and ranchers) together to work out a plan to address a future population, but, that quickly broke up when the eco-freaks were willing to sacrifice every cow, sheep, goat, dog, and cat to protect every wolf from not be able to lead a happy life.

First people complain about wolves and predators being dangerous so we kill them off, then we have an explosion in herd type animals, the same people who wanted the predators gone, now are against hunting, so we introduce back the predators and due to an over abundance of food and animals not use to be hunted their population explodes. Thus we are right back where we started.

Since the U.S. government started “seeding” wolves into selected areas, the farmers and land owners have been going crazy from predation caused by wolves who refuse to stay on federal land. Deer and elk herds have also been hard hit. Some USG agencies have introduced the Canadian species of wolf that's even more aggressive than the U.S. version.

Many farmers and landowners have practiced the 3S kind of solution for the government protected species: “shoot, shovel, shut-up.”

I haven't seen a word about that and really doubt it for now, wolf numbers in both states are very low and they couldn't justify a hunt.

It should make a difference though in livestock owners being able to protect their stock. I doubt they'll have to jump through hoops to shoot wolves threatening that stock.

I have no problem with wolves....if they want to wander into the states, let them...

but let people protect themselves from them and if they don't wise up and stay in very remote areas then they deserve to be hunted down like any rabid dog....

I've heard from many sources that the elk in central to northren Idaho have been decimated by wolves, and they simply kill to kill....

And just what part of their best guesses of the wolf population does 1,300 represent; 30%, 20% or less?

After all these years under the protection of the feds, judges and the environ-mental agitators the wolves have had a free lunch or maybe a free breakfast for years at the expensive of the sheep and cattlemen. The program rivals the school lunch programs given to kids....at the taxpayers expense.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said Friday that the population of gray wolves in Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin has recovered enough to be removed from federal protection.

About 4,000 wolves roam the three states.

Wyoming might consider wolf numbers outside of Yellowstone to 10 breeding pairs and 100 animals.

The original government promise was for 300 inside Yellowstone Park only.

Wolves are nothing compared to the exploding coyote population. They've so well adapted to human civilization that park rangers on the American River Parkway near my house in Sacramento, CA are on the constant lookout for them--especially for females with pups, since those females can be VERY aggressive protecting those pups.

Allow me to break your informative post into its components.

#4 is important. Too many Libtard animal whackos.

7. Thus we are right back where we started.

#7 is the error. Only if the government trough feeders are allowed to force faulty management premises on those charged with managing the deer herds dooes the cycle begin again.

Should the younger voters force their public servants to use the intelligence and control which human hunters, not wolves, then population levels CAn be managed successfully.

In summation, a recreational, non-commercial season for the taking of Libtards would seem to be a valid solution to direct reduction of that unwanted population.

At any rate you missed the point of the post: Extinctions are a part of life on Earth and trying to maintain a static ecosystem when by nature they a dynamic is a fools errand.
