Joy Behar Bizarrely Blames Reagan in 1981 for Sleeping Air Traffic Controllers in 2011

Sleeping air traffic controllers in 2011 are the fault of Ronald Reagan firing striking workers in 1981, according to liberal comedienne Joy Behar. The View co-host on Thursday managed to blame the late President while talking about a recent series of napping air traffic controllers.

The left-wing comic bizarrely compared, "[Reagan] busted the union, the air controllers' union. And they probably would have been strict about having two people there, because the main thing about the unions is they want more people to work."

Fellow co-host Whoopi Goldberg joined in, complaining, "It sort of started with the- Ronald Reagan saying, you know, you guys asking for too much money. He fired everybody. He cleaned them all out."

The guys that were fired would’v all be retired by the mid 90’s so what exactly is their point? And no I don’t beelvie the union ever required 2 ATC overnight when only 3 flights in are on the schedule.IMHO they need to put in some sort of simple alarm that starts sounding the moment the plane is within miles of the airport.

NATCO replaced PATCO in 1987, six years after the strike, and has been the air traffic controllers’ union since then.

Only a liberal could argue that two employees need to be hired, in case one of them wants to sleep on the job.

Of course, this applies only when they're to be somebody else's employees. Liberals themselves hire underpaid illegals and drive them like rented mules.

Hiring two workers to perform the work of one is the cornerstone of unionism. What should happen is that the sleeper should get a day or two off without pay to catch up on his sleep.

Unlike others, I don’t see this as a firing offense, at least not the first time. I’ve worked rotating shifts for 20 years - trust me when I say that your sleep patterns are totally screwed up sometimes. Nevertheless, they guy should have done whatever he needed to do to be alert when the situation required it.

If Reagan had not fired them, any PATCO member who was employed in 1981would probably either have retired or have enough seniority not to be stuck with a night shift by now. If anything, the specter of being fired for poor performance probably kept them honest.

Bush’s fault! No, not GWB. No, not GHWB. Prescott Bush! Makes as much sense as blaming Reagan!! How do these morons obtain access to microphones? They need to be in padded rooms.

I blame the Wright brothers. If it wasn’t for them, this ATC wouldn’t have fallen asleep.

By FAA rules, Joy has to wear a flashing red light on top of her head when she goes outside at night because that big, empty jug-of-a-head of hers is a navigation threat to any aircraft flying under 20,000 feet.

Bingo. Under these low workloads, it's little different than being on call.

It’s good PATCO is on the view.

Teachers and other public employees need to heed the law or be fired.

The striking teachers in Wisconsin, under advice from union perps, are putting thier jobs on the line. The union loses nothing. Fools

Also, are the towers still dark so they can see the screens? That can make you sleepy. And what about bathroom breaks? I think there should always be 2 working if there is a tower. It may be more expensive, but safety first.

An alarm system would probably work as well.

Yeah, I don’t know know the situation, but it seems that one person, at night, etc, it seems like you are going to have people nod off, I don’t care who they are. I have had occasions where one second I’m awake doing something and the next I realize I have nodded off. It happens. If there are 2 there it’s just less likely.

And sheesh, the whole reason we have them is safety. Perhaps we can cut somewhere else.

Put two union members in a room and both will claim it’s not their job and you need to get a third union member to do the job.

I was on an airplane the other day and overheard a similar conversation in the row behind me. According to one gentlemen, when Reagan fired the controllers all the air traffic control experts lost their jobs. Apparently thirty years later they haven’t been able to train up any replacements.

use the Canadian system where you can fire an employee and sue the company instead of UNION protected jobs.
