If President Obama knew then what he knows now, he would not have voted against raising the debt limit in 2006.
That was the explanation trotted out by the White House Monday, as it sought to square the administration's pleas to Congress to lift the debt ceiling by next month against Obama's voting history. As a senator in 2006, Obama voted against raising the debt limit. But White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said the president now views that vote as a "mistake."
"He now believes it was a mistake," Carney said. He said Obama understands that senators want to make it clear when they disagree with the administration but that there are other ways to go about doing it. He said the debt ceiling vote is not something Washington "can play around with," warning that a failure to lift the cap would be "Armageddon-like" for the economy.

Mygawd.
We’ve found a m...er...child even more vapid than Kerry!
"Incredible. I get to bankrupt America.
And get to lie at the same time
while the entire MSM protects little old Kenyan me.
It is GREAT to be King."
The majority of those who voted for Barry in 2008 “made a mistake”. Now what?
Obama admits mistakes as a US Senator.
Which was the basis for his “experience” to be CIC.
He is still making mistakes.
Republicans need to hold him accountable.... let him know right now that there is not the votes in the House to pass an increase to the debt ceiling the only other option he has is to dramatically cut spending.... Let the American people decide who was being adult about the conversation. This is no different then taking back a misused credit card that a parent allowed a child to have to pay for room and board at college and later found out that entertainment and booze were charged to the card. What does a parent do? I guess a liberal says way to go and don’t worry I will increase the spending limit? The right answer is to cut up the card and make them pay cash in the future. This is non negotiable.
I looked up the word "mistake" in the dictionary since I thought it was spelled "Misstake". To my surprise, Obama's picture was there!
One more point, if Republicans cave on this issue without getting trillions in spending cuts then the future is done. The Liberals will force massive tax increases it will destroy the economy and inflation and incresed production costs will destroy the middleclass.
MAKE NO MISTAKE THIS IS THE LINE IN THE SAND.
Yeah but he was great at orgainizing people into forcing the government into giving them welfare and entitlements... Now his chickens are coming home to roost but only if he is held accountable.
Oh I see. Now that Odummy wants to raise the limit he shouldn’t have voted against raising it in the past. Okay This jerk needs to go. wonder what his teleprompter is going to tell him to say Wed.
While he’s another apology binge, regretting “mistakes made,” BO should admit that running for the presidency was a huge mistake because he was obviously not right for the job, so he will not run in 2012. Now, about half of the Independents are realizing the dreadful mistake they made in voting for this incompetent in ‘08.
But I thought Obongo was the smartest guy in the world even back then.
He was agains’t it before he was for it.
That’s an insult to (what used to be, at least) a pretty nifty little chain of white-trash hangouts.
The greatest fear of the Rats and RINOS is not raising the debt limit. Must be the right thing to do.
The economy is a goner no matter what. There is no way to avoid it. Either keep spending, or don’t. Either way, it will be bad. The govt spending is keeping the economy afloat. Without it, it will actually feel like the Great Depression. We need to stop it, but not for the temporary benefit of the economy, but to sustain this nation. There are things worse than a depression, and that includes complete civil collapse.
You got it. Massive Taxes. That is what will come. And Defense Cuts. Destruction of the middle class is the game.
