PHILADELPHIA (CBS) The Pennsylvania SPCA is working overtime this morning, raiding homes across the city breaking up what officials are calling the largest dogfighting ring theyve ever seen in this city.
Officials say this dogfighting ring has been under surveillance for awhile. And late last night, early this morning, the Pennsylvania SPCA with Philadelphia police acting on a tip that fights were happening, raided a home on the 2600 block of Gerritt Street.
Pennsylvania SPCA director of law enforcement, George Bengal says when they entered the house, there were around 25 people watching a fight in progress.
They actually ran, and left the dogs in the ring fighting, unattended when we entered the property.
Those two dogs that were fighting, Bengal says are in pretty bad shape. In all six dogs were taken from that house. And 15-20 people were arrested facing animal cruelty and felony dogfighting charges.
At about 7 a.m. Monday, officials raided another home this one in Kensington where Bengal says they found 12 dogs stacked in cages in the basement alongside a collection of drugs, weapons, and dog fighting paraphernalia.
HA!
Real clever and articulate response to my pointing out how baseless your “responses “ were.
There’s a difference between a race and a fight. A greyhound race and a horse race are comparable.
A dog fight and a horse race are not.
You’re not even comparing apples to oranges. You’re comparing apples to pianos.
That’s generally a sign that you haven’t thought through your argument.
The horses are not raced until the losers all drop dead on the track.
In a dog fight, the losers are killed.
“Real men” like that need to be taught that Real Men don’t treat anything inhumanely. They may kill animals for food, but they do so quickly.
Only boys pretending to be “macho” attempt to defend this sort of thing.
THANKS FOR YOUR REASONED POSTS!
I am always very surprised that some of the “Christians” on freeper can be so lacking in compassion for animals. I believe our creator called us to a higher calling. I can not imagine Jesus saying dog fighting or other animal cruelty is “Ok , cause its private property”. As a civilized people we do have a duty to enact certain laws as restrictions on violent, unacceptable behaviors.
It is disconcerting to see a glorification, or even a tolerance for what is sadistic sport. Real men are “gentlemen” , especially to those more vulnerable than they.
These posters always come onto these threads and I post to try to explain also the very real connection between animal abuse and human abuse.
“Real men are gentlemen , especially to those more vulnerable than they.”
Exactly, a real man is strong AND tender when needed. He is capable of dandling a baby on his knee and taking on the criminal who just kicked in his door. He is ALPHA to all the dogs in the house, but gives out ear scratches and belly rubs when he pleases.
That is so eloquently stated!
The reason we have so many disturbed young men and in gangs is because they often lack a good male role model. This produces young males who lack self confidence and strong values and a strong sense of who they are..the result is a young male who is insecure, confused , and without confidence...just the kind who gets violent and indiscriminantly acts out.
Bizarre comment. Evidently you’re not aware of what goes hand in hand with dogfighting: guns, drugs and gambling not to mention unspeakable cruelty to the dogs. Do you think this type of criminal activity should be ignored?
What's more important to you, solving human murders or arresting people at dog fights for animal cruelty?
Through these threads, I find dog lovers to be much more concerned with the welfare of animals (but not all animals, just dogs - like dogs were little furry people or something) than they are with humans. To me this is bizarre. Philly has a murder spree going on with roughly twice as many murders as it had this time last year, not to mention about 40 unsolved murders from 2010. To spend police resources tracking down dog fighting when the scumbags are killing people is a really stupid allocation of police resources.
I personally value human life far more highly than I value dogs. It is apparent that dog lovers reverse this paradigm.
If I say tracking down murderers is more important than tracking down dog fighting rings, then you fabricate a lie and say I approve of dog fighting. I don't. It's just that crimes against animals are less important to me than crimes against people like murder, robbery, rape, assault, etc.
So you "give it a rest" until you've learned to disagree politely.
You don't get to determine that. I didn't want your insulting post to me in the first place, but you went ahead and did it anyway.
I wrote that you approve of dog fighting. Go, look
Lookie here
Or maybe you do know. Hmm.
