But whereas we thought Kloppenburg had a real chance of beating Prosser, we've always been skeptical to the point of incredulity about the prospects for recalling Republican senators. That's because under Wisconsin law, an official has to have served for a year before being subject to recall. That shields both Walker and all Republican lawmakers who replaced Democrats in last year's election. As Wisconsin senators serve four-year terms, only those who survived the Democratic sweep of 2006 or 2008 can be recalled.
It only gets worse for Wisconsin Democrats. Kloppenburg's campaign implied--though in her "victory" press conference she robotically denied--that she would provide the deciding vote on the court to overturn Walker's reforms. Her defeat means that those reforms will soon take effect unless they have an actual legal defect.
One of the most important reforms is that union dues will become voluntary. State and local government will no longer take money out of their employees' paychecks and hand it over to the unions. This is likely to be the last Wisconsin election in which the Democrats have the advantage of support from organizations with the power to raise campaign funds coercively.
The unions' show of muscle in this week's election was not unimpressive, even though it was insufficient to the task at hand. Starved of the nourishment of forcibly collected dues, they may look like a 98-pound weakling by 2012.

I agree and with inflation who has any extra money for paying union dues.
Yes, it is kind of amazing what has happened in WI the past year. Like some kind of giant fog has been lifted from the population at large. Keep up the great work!
Imagine all the “working” folks having to write a check on April 15th for ALL the money they owe the IRS, rather than thinking they are making out because they get a check from the IRS.
The same victory is being repeated in Ohio with Governor John Kasich. And we must also look at the money the unions have spent in these battles. This is money they will need to buy the 2012 elections to keep Zer0 in power and, of course, the US Senate.
Possibly, BUT in States where no auto ded are done that has not been the case. And keep in mind when the member has to write the check themselves it is a whole different ball game because they will have had the money in their hand and then see it leave.
Why do you think the Fed withholding etc is automatically deducted from paychecks? The unions will now have to spend money to collect the dues where it was done for them previously. This is a good thing.
“The left has shown historically that when the going gets tough, they dig their heels in and turn up the heat. We could learn a few things from them.”
No need to learn from them. We know. We just have to have the cajones to do it. PC has made us run scared.
The Tea Party is rising up to take the on the left head on.
In the 90’s I worked for a pretty big cookie company. They had an manufacturing facility in Philly.
Well, one day while they were ramping up a line, management asked that a person from the cafeteria be moved over to the line. The union said no.
So management once again requested that someone from the cafeteria move over to work on the new line. The union said no.
On Friday, management once again requested that one person move from the cafeteria to the new cookie line. The union said no.
Over the weekend, the cafeteria was closed, there were vending machines in its place and 20 cafeteria workers were fired on Monday morning. The union went ballistic. Management said they negotiated in good faith and according to the contract. The union claimed discrimination.
Management won.
A few months later, one of our plants in California had something similar happen. A woman with incontinence had to leave the line every 15 minutes to go to the bathroom. Management offered her an office position at the same pay and asked the union to put someone in her place. The union said no.
The woman started wearing a diaper. In solidarity, the union joined in and wore diapers to work.
A week later the plant was sold and closed down. 200 people lost their jobs.
I read somewhere that when the income tax was instituted, they planned it exactly for that reason.
A key provision of Walker's WI law is not only to eviscerate unions' bargaining power but ALSO the state's obligation to collect union dues out of employee's paychecks---(most of which goes to Dem campaigns).
The libs are paranoid that Obama did not join them in WI as he promised he would during the campaign. He couldn't go----B/C he couldn't appear to side with violent union workers intent on keeping collective bargaining "rights" ...rights Ohaha's army of federal employees do not have.
THIS SAYS A LOT Obama's recent Boston fundraiser started out as a $5,000 a plate then dropped to $500 a plate ... but he still could not fill the roomended up talking to a little over 100 people. And last week's propaganda about his Harlem funder---that it was "intentionally kept small." IOW they could not even give the $30,000 per head tickets away.
Heh---nice to see Ohaha between a rock and a hard place. In a word----l-o-s-e-r.
Our my r i spel chk ok. Me tea each ur kids.
He be raising dat BILLION DOLLARS soo dang fast it be he lyk an easter bunny rabbit on some meth or sumin.
Unions could still play a role in Dem elections---albeit a sub rosa role (/snix). Will involve "borrowing" union members' names and surreptitiously listing them as "donors."
BACKSTORY Remember how Ohaha raised a whopping $750 million for 2008----purportedly from "anonymous foreign donors" who flooded his 2008 campaign with hundreds of thousands of relatively small, untraceable illegal donations?
Reminds me of the excellent book---"Flawless"--- about the half a $$$billion Antwerp diamond heist. The crooks couldn't spend it, of course, without calling attention to themselves. So they had to invent a money-maker to account for their spending. They pretended a multi-million dollar movie deal about their heist was in the works.
Can't wait to see the cover story Ohahas come up with for all those 2012 "campaign donations."
Union dues, illegal $ transfers from wealthy liberals to phoney non profits, who then launder the money and send it to Rat candidates and illegal foreign money are the foundation and core of rat power.
This is great. The whole piece brings joy to my heart and a smile to my face.
It’s a fun thing whenever the good guys manage to swat away the clawing hands that are reaching for my pocket.
It’s good when genuine scumbags lose.
N-i-c-e insight.
We formed this Union one state at a time. It will have to be saved the same way.
This is really an uplifting article.
GREAT GOING, WISCONSIN!
We sure have been praying for all Wisconsin patriots to pull off a BIG WIN over the Socialists!! First you did it with electing your wonderful Governor Walker and then you took care of the Union lover judge! You’re the BEST!
