A man believed to be a former student opened fire in a school in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday, killing 12 people and wounding 22 others before taking his own life, AFP is reporting.
The shooter is identified as being 24 years old.
Per BBC News:
[A]ny Brazilian over the age of 25 can buy a firearm, provided they pass background checks.
Then there is this:
[A]ll firearms are required to be registered with the state
Were further told that its virtually impossible to obtain a carry permit, and that a tax must be paid every three years to own a gun legally. So naturally, nine of the estimated 17 million guns in Brazil are unregistered.
And naturally:
Although Brazil has 110 million fewer citizens than the United States, and more restrictive gun laws, there are 50% more gun deaths; other sources indicate that homicide rates due to guns are approximately four times higher than the rate in the United States.
A candid assessment, reported in The New York Times of all papers, during discussion on a nationwide gun ban in 2005, explains: Advertisement
"If approved, this measure is not going to affect criminals, but will only prevent ordinary citizens from defending themselves," said Mr. Fraga, a former police commander. "Criminals don't go to the store to buy their guns, they get them clandestinely through networks of contraband, which are only going to grow if the yes wins" because ordinary citizens will also have to turn to them.
And we should be shocked, shocked to read this admission:
Other guns used to commit crimes come from police and military arsenals, either stolen or sold by corrupt soldiers and officers.
So much forwhat do the antis call it?common sense gun control.

Logic and reason are not hallmarks of liberalism...............
And further proof that some Mooslims are willing to kill defenseless school kids...
Except for the 25 years of age, exactly like New Jersey.
liberalism or statism is a form of religion, based on emotion and belief in an all powerful entity - the government. Statism is not a logic based system of belief, and as such its believers are not swayed by logic. To paraphrase Stuart Chase:
Fur the true believer, no proof is necessary, and no disproof possible
And this murderer was stopped by a good guy with a gun.
That is the lesson I learn from this.
Consider that if there ever were a place where gun control worked, wed never hear the end of it.
However, they can never seem to cite an example where it has worked (Just like Socialism Coincidence?)
They can only speak in terms of baby steps and a good start to absolve themselves when their commonsense (common-nonsense) schemes do not work as always.
Neither are Freedom and Liberty.
These Brazil killings could not have taken place if they had banned over 10 round magazines!
Oh wait, the Brazilian newspapers say the shooter used two REVOLVERS and lots of ammo.
Well, maybe if we just ban all 6 shot revolvers and only allow 5 shot revolvers!
Problem solved! Ain’t I smart!
Just for what it is worth, I have a photo printed in a 40 year old gun magazine showing a homemade pistol made by a Brazilian boy. He used files and cut the pistol entirely from a piece of railroad track steel.
Freedom and Liberty are the result of Logic and reason ..........
Tyranny and Destruction are the result of Liberalism and Socialism.
Tyranny and Destruction followed by Anarchy and Chaos............
