Odd??????????????????
For CA...and most of the rest of the west coast...it is not a matter of IF.....just a matter of when.
This has been known as verified scientific fact (unlike man caused global climate change) for decades.
Hey...if folks want to live in CA under the protective umbrella of "it can't happen to me", or "it won't happen here."...so be it.
But when it does happen - AND IT WILL - there should be absolutely zero federal $$ going to "re-build" anything or "compensate" anyone for losses suffered.
CA-ites paid their nickel and made their choice....with full and complete knowledge about what is going to happen.
I'm not sure science is good enough to tell us exactly where the large EQ is going to happen. But for sure, Seattle is "in the zone".
I too have family there. My mon, my sister and her family, and my brother. It will be catastrophic. I've made mention of this many times to them.
What I get back is variations on a theme.
"It won't happen." "It won't happen here!" "It won't happen to us." And the like.
So be it....they have the knowledge....and they've made their choice.
Wow! I always wanted to live and own a home and land on an island. If what he drew was to happen, I’d get my wish!
“”But still, people will recover, say “shoganai” (it cant be helped) and continue on with life.””
Indeed, that is how it is done, isn’t it...
Thank you for the news recommendations and please do know that you all have been, and will continue to be in the prayers of so many people around the world.
God bless.
Tatt
It should be noted that any event which could cause these sorts of changes in only a few years would be so energetic it would cause the extinction of all land-based multicellular life as well.

Partypooper! Now I'm bummed out. ;-)
they just cannot catch a break!
Why can’t this be happening somewhere like IRAN or China instead?
No offense, but I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. In some areas of China this would result in hundreds of thousands dead. Now if a 7.1 could be localized specifically to the politburo in Beijing, then maybe I could sign onto that. :)
You'll get no protest out of this CA Native.
I rode out Sylmar in 1971, then was blessed to have been dwelling at opposing ends of the San Andreas for both the Loma Prieta and Northridge events; I was in So CA in 1989, and up north afterward.
Still, as you well note, we live with the awareness that it really is not a matter of "if" but "when." I would add that we also have the variable of "where"; will it be Los Angeles or San Francisco that gets hammered; or perhaps somewhere in between?
I've understood for 30 years that there won't be insurance money enough to pay even the claims for the suckers who DO have earthquake policies in force, so I haven't even bothered. Whatever happens to my house will be entirely up to me to repair, and most likely on my own dime, although I think most people expect that there will be some nominal amount that FEMA will bring to the table as a goodwill gesture on behalf of whoever happens to live in the White House at that time; probably enough for a trip to any remaining MacDonald's in the area.
Those of us out here who've thought about it (and that may well be a thin minority) stand fully aware that our post-disaster disposition will be "YOYO" ("You on yo OWN!").
“I this is true than where are the red sox going to play???”
Never again at Yankee Stadium.
Or another foreshock - it didn't get much publicity, but there was a 7.2 quake that occurred 2 days before the 9.0, at the same depth (19.9 miles - and it DID appear to create a tsunami) and about 20 miles from the epicenter.
I pray this is not the same type of situation.
And in what ways was Cayce a charlatan?
Gambatte kudasai.!!
That is a sobering thought.

From the first link:
Edgar Cayce (pronounced Casey) is known as one of America's greatest psychics. His followers maintain that Cayce was able to tap into some sort of higher consciousness, such as God or the akashic record, to get his "psychic knowledge." He used this "knowledge" to predict that California will slide into the ocean and that New York City will be destroyed in some sort of cataclysm. He predicted that in 1958 the U.S. would discover some sort of death ray used on Atlantis. Cayce is one of the main people responsible for some of the sillier notions about Atlantis, including the idea that the Atlanteans had some sort of Great Crystal. Cayce called the Great Crystal the Tuaoi Stone and said it was a huge cylindrical prism that was used to gather and focus "energy," allowing the Atlanteans to do all kinds of fantastic things. But they got greedy and stupid, tuned up their Crystal to too high a frequency and set off volcanic disturbances that led to the destruction of that ancient world. He made other predictions concerning such things as the Great Depression (that 1933 would be a good year) and the Lindbergh kidnapping (most of it wrong, all of it useless), and that China would be converted to Christianity by 1968. He also claimed to be able see and read auras, but this power was never tested under controlled conditions. However, Edgar Cayce is best known for being a psychic medical diagnostician and psychic reader of past lives.
From the third link:
...Thinking of my daughter, who has Cerebral Palsy, I wondered aloud whether or not Mr. Cayce had done any readings on Cerebral Palsy. Someone passed me the index and I looked it up. There were, indeed, several readings under Cerebral Palsy, subcategorized under Abnormal Children.
It was right then that I stopped having fun.
I was not offended by the terminology Mr. Cayce died in 1945 and I could not fault him for using language which would have been common in his day. No, the fun stopped because I suddenly realized that each of those 14,000 readings represented an actual person. This was a person with a disabled child, an illness or some type of problem. This was a person who chose to spend their money, time and resources to seek help from Edgar Cayce, the Sleeping Prophet, who was almost certainly 100% unqualified to help them. And because they spent their money, time and resources on Mr. Cayce, they would have had less money, time and resources to devote to things which might actually have been of some benefit. (end quote)
The man made his living by pretending to have "psychic" powers. He was a cross between a fortune teller and a witch doctor. As I said...a charlatan.
Perhaps and if not - very close friends with the AC.
yes, that is what I meant although I failed to articulate it. :-)
I thought so. That’s why I was teasing you more than chastising.
Now where’s my earthquake machine. I need to set up shop at Amadgonad’s (I never try to spell that nut’s name right) house.
