NEW YORK (AP)The New York Yankees say they are finished flashing hand signals from the standsat least for now.
General manager Brian Cashman confirmed that the team received a call Saturday from the commissioners office inquiring about a club employee relaying information to players after each pitch on opening day.
The Daily News reported Saturday that broadcaster Keith Olbermann, a New York season-ticket holder, put a photo on Twitter of Brett Weber, a Yankees baseball operations coaching assistant, holding up four fingers toward the field during Thursdays game against the Detroit Tigers.

With their payroll, the Yankees ought to be able to beat teams playing blindfolded.

They haven’t but I tend to agree they should come from the field or dugout. Kinda hard to enforce though.

I didn't realize baseball stopped using hand signals. Is that because some lib organization found them "offensive" or perhaps "not politically correct?"
To: Realman30

He should demand that Congress begin the House Un-baseball Activities Committee hearings immediately.

Yeah, they should just trust the scoreboard’s display of 912 mph!

Yeah, they should just trust the scoreboards display of 912 mph! I heard that the radar gun was inadvertently pointed at Chuck Schumer's mouth.

If you watched those two games you would know that the Yankees could have beaten the Tigers without hand signals. The Tigers beat themselves with bad pitching and bad fielding. Scoring only 3 runs in the first game didn’t help much either.

Why in the hell are they using hand signals? That’s so 1950s.
Why aren’t they using smart phones, some form of instant messaging, or ‘Secret Service’ type radio transmitters?

After the pitch?
Years ago the home team would have someone behind the scoreboard with binoculars to steal the catchers signals before the pitch was made.
A huge advantage for the hitters to know what was coming.
