On April 5 Wisconsinites will be voting for assorted alderpersons, trustees and school board candidates. The marquee event however, is the hotly contested Unions vs. Gov. Scott Walker race.
Oh sure, the ballot will say something about JoAnne Kloppenburg vs. David Prosser for Wisconsin Supreme Court justice, but they're just bit players in the unions' big play to get revenge on Walker for his budget repair bill. Unions are casting Justice Prosser as a Walker clone and urging Walker haters to use the high court race to punish Prosser/Walker by voting for his opponent, whoever she is.
Prosser, who has been a Supreme Court justice for 12 years, finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, being a conservative judge who happens to be up for re-election this year. He says he views the union action as "a little bit like a drive-by shooting."
It's a lot like that. The American Federation of Teachers, Local 212, sent a letter to its members saying legal challenges to Walker's budget repair bill could wind up before the state Supreme Court. It claimed four judges are "anti-union" and said, "A Kloppenburg victory would swing the balance to our side. A vote for Prosser is a vote for Walker. It's time to get even."

As for Kloppenburg, we know she's an assistant attorney general most experienced in environmental law. She interned for Chief Justice Abrahamson and clerked for former Chief Judge Barbara Crabb - the judge who ruled against the National Day of Prayer last year.
She makes campaign contributions only to Democrats, and has been endorsed by the big labor and teachers unions. The executive director of NARAL Pro Choice Wisconsin endorses her, as well as numerous liberal environmental activist groups.
The liberals see something in Kloppenburg they like.
It can't be her judicial experience. No, they just need a "Get Even With Walker" candidate, and she'll do. Revenge voters only care about who they're voting against, not who they're voting for.

I sure hope you are right. It is so frustrating to read every article about anything political around here portrayed from the leftist viewpoint. Media malfeasance is so blatant right now. If Prosser does win it will really give me hope. He is no radical rightwinger (more’s the pity from my point of view) but he is a very decent man who abides by the laws as judges are supposed to do.
However, be careful in your phrasing. Before they moved this way they consulted non-partisan council from the legislature regarding the timing. The legislature was in special session. In that status, 24 hours was not required, only 2, which they provided. The entire lawsuit hinges on this, and it is a lefty thug overreach because 1) the legislature enforces its own rules, courts don't 2) The judge has inserted herself into the legislative process by not allowing the law to be published. Judges rule on laws that are challenged after they are made. If judges can stop laws they don't like, then we no longer have separation of powers. And then why do we need a legislature?
Anyway... let's hope and pray for the best!
Cronon is the UW-M "professor" who wrote the OpEd for the NYT associating Gov Walker with "McCarthyism."
I think it might be effective to use those threatening letters the union sent out against them. Take out ads in the local papers, with the text of the letter and a list of the local businesses that were targeted, and remind people that this is what they’re voting on and that once you submit to extortion there’s no such thing as “enough”.
Sounds like twisted logic.

Please put your things in order because you will be killed and your familes will also be killed due to your actions in the last 8 weeks. Please explain to them that this is because if we get rid of you and your families then it will save the rights of 300,000 people and also be able to close the deficit that you have created. I hope you have a good time in hell. Read below for more information on possible scenarios in which you will die.
WE want to make this perfectly clear. Because of your actions today and in the past couple of weeks I and the group of people that are working with me have decided that we’ve had enough. We feel that you and the people that support the dictator have to die. We have tried many other ways of dealing with your corruption but you have taken things too far and we will not stand for it any longer. So, this is how it’s going to happen: I as well as many others know where you and your family live, it’s a matter of public records.
We have all planned to assult you by arriving at your house and putting a nice little bullet in your head. However, we decided that we wouldn’t leave it there. We also have decided that this may not be enough to send the message to you since you are so “high” on Koch and have decided that you are now going to single handedly make this a dictatorship instead of a demorcratic process. So we have also built several bombs that we have placed in various locations around the areas in which we know that you frequent. This includes, your house, your car, the state capitol, and well I won’t tell you all of them because that’s just no fun.
Since we know that you are not smart enough to figure out why this is happening to you we have decided to make it perfectly clear to you. If you and your goonies feel that it’s necessary to strip the rights of 300,000 people and ruin their lives, making them unable to feed, clothe, and provide the necessities to their families and themselves then We Will “get rid of” (in which I mean kill) you. Please
understand that this does not include the heroic Rep. Senator that risked everything to go aganist what you and your goonies wanted him to do. We feel that it’s worth our lives to do this, because we would be saving the lives
of 300,000 people. Please make your peace with God as soon as possible and say goodbye to your loved ones we will not wait any longer. YOU WILL DIE!!!!

I know. But they can argue that was one lone “disturbed individual”. Then can’t make that arguement with the letters from the union.
If you have a link to them, please add it to the thread.
Thanks!
We are getting the word out. I’ve seen a few Prosser signs and even a 4’x8’ yard sign in my county. I think the common sense people will rise up. It’s too bad that voter ID wasn’t passed first.
That is the ace in the hole for Walker, and maybe some of the unionistas get that. If he loses this battle Walker can lay off thousands if he wants to. Either way, the budget gets balanced.

It contains some of the text of the letter, but not all of it. Apparently there were more letters sent, and I don't see any reason they couldn't be published with the consent of the recipients. Even some of the local union members were embarassed and mad about it.
It sounds as though the union girlymen are a little upset. They’ll get over. Commie losers usually do.
Thank you. From the article linked in your post.

[excerpt] UNION GROVE - Local union members apologized to business owners Thursday after hearing union leadership threatened to boycott businesses.
The stunning development happened late Thursday afternoon at Village Dollar, where members with the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees showed their support to businesses that were targeted.
It all started after Dawn Bobo, owner of Village Dollar in Union Grove, refused to put up a sign supporting AFSCME.
The public union is against Governor Scott Walker’s plan to take away most collective bargaining rights for its members.
Bobo didn’t want to take sides, fearing she would offend customers.
“I have customers from all walks of life, “she said. “In a tough economy you need everyone here.”
But apparently that wasn’t good enough for AFSCME Union Rep. Jim Parrett, who sent her a letter that reads in part:
“We’d ask that you reconsider taking a sign and stance to support public employees in this community. Failure to do so will leave us no choice but do a public boycott of your business.”
“It rubbed me the wrong way,” said customer John Charnon.
He and other customers drove out of their way to shop at Village Dollar Thursday. According to Bobo, business tripled because of it.
Even some local AFSCME union members called the threats “thuggish”.....[end excerpt]
Exactamundo! A little Spanish lingo....
I think it might make an effective campaign to publish ads in local papers, listing the local businesses that were threatened. People are more likely to go vote when they feel like they have a personal stake in an issue, and they’re more likely to have that if they recognize the names of local businesses that they may shop at or know people who work there.
Indeed!
According to that story, these over the top, out of hand bulling tactics disgust people.
And that's what we need to leverage. The problem is not necessarily the union members themselves, but the union leadership and representation. That's who the state has to negotiate with on behalf of the taxpayers, and they're out of control.
The voters elected a republican majority in November. Now the democrats talk about getting even. It’s too bad the “people” can’t REALLY get even.
