Future jobs won’t support decent living standard: Report (Walmart Greeters)

"The result? To achieve economic security, a single parent with two children needs an income of just over $30,000 a year--nearly twice the federal minimum wage--while a two-income household needs almost $68,000.

The study then finds that, according to Labor Department projections, fewer than 13 percent of jobs to be created by 2018 will meet the economic security threshold for a single parent with two kids. Forty-three percent of those jobs will meet the threshold for a two-income household.

In other words, most of the jobs of the future aren't likely to pay enough to offer the kind of stable, middle-class existence that for much of the 20th century was seen as the American birthright.

"The American Dream of working hard to support your family is being re-written by the growth of low-paying industries and rising expenses," said Joan Kuriansky, WOW's executive director."

“So few of these new jobs will be paying federal income taxes either. I guess thats one way to starve the beast.”

The beast might starve, but only after eating you.

Regardless of who is responsible, the obvious fact is that current jobs won’t support a decent living standard. People can dispute it from a hundred different points of view, but the simple fact is that having a family or buying a modest home is simply not in the cards for the average 25 year-old for the foreseeable future.

I wrote the McDonalds essay but lost it. here is a digest.

Go to work for McDonalds and consider it going to school.

Most McDonalds employees don’t flip burgers, they are in sales. At McDonalds if you apply your self and study what is happening you can develop a good understanding of sales and customer service.

If you clean up, study the various chemicals and cleaners. Read the MSDS documents and learn a lot about OSHA, chemicals and government regulation. Learn what they do and why they do it. Understand the process and hoe it relates to government regulations. Somewhere there are posters. Study the posters and develop a total understanding of what they mean. Learn how the government and business interact and why.

Hang out with the manager and study and learn the flow of goods. Learn the basics of purchasing. study the inventory flow and learn how inventory management keeps the company rolling.

A typical Mc Donalds store is a mega industry on a micto scale They buy raw materials hire labor and manufacture a product to very tight specifications. The process is typical of all manufacturing, only the product, the manufacturing equipment and size are different.

Then there is the matter of human resources. A one year study od the flow of people in and out and retained could result in a master’s degree paper on proper use and abuse of labor resources.

Then there is cash. A study of cash management could provide a detailed insight into cash, banking and the importance of plastic payments to a small business.

It is all there for free. as a matter of fact one can get paid while at this school. All it takes ie a proper frame of mind and a desire. Everything there is something to be learned

An interviewer will be blown out of her shoes when the lessons set out and learned are recounted in extreme detail.

I’m going to save this and continue to expand for the next time the issue is raised.

yeah, but Gates is soooooooo moral and soooooo righteous!

He is over in the third World with mosquito nets and telling us we should all spread the wealth with way more taxes(uh, the same guy that was a greedy, self-centered , power driven capitalist “pig” back when Microsoft started??).

Hey Gates, how about you get honest about how you crushed the competition and were a total A..hole when it was about amazzing wealth for YOU...?

Now you run around with your dear old dad, suddenly you are a liberal saving the planet...why not start some capitalist initiative programs for ghetto kids here?

I hate that sob cause he is such a hypocrite.!

(next time I will tell you how I REALLY feel about him.)

Yeppir. Most of the homes in my old neighborhood were 2BR 1Bath. No central heat or air. Lots of families had one car. One phone line in the hall. One B&W TV. Part of it is tech improvement, but I went by my old house and we had four people living in a 2 BR 1 Bath house of about 900 square feet.

The only kids I knew who had their own bedrooms were either only children or their sib was the opposite sex.

I'm not knocking living well, but many of us have developed expectations that are pretty high. Most of us still live far more opulently than any other group of people in the history of the world.

"...all we can do is sell Made in China iPads to each other."

--or so we'd believe if we took the doom'n'gloom press' word for it, but you and I are working and most others are working and doing OK too.  Sure, almost a tenth of America's workforce is between jobs, but that means more than 90% are working and together we Americans make more stuff than before and more than anyone else.

There will still be good jobs - they just won’t be in the USA.

But thanks to Obama, other dems and RINOs, our tax money will be subsidizing a lot of foreign manufacturing jobs, especially in production of hardware for USA solar and wind power generation.

I understand what you are saying. However, what I am saying is you are not going to make a living flipping burgers all your life. Be it McDonald’s or Billy Bob’s Home Style Burgers down on the block.

President Hillary Clinton will fix all of this. “Come...come to Hillary...she has the answers...look at the shiny bauble...give Hillary your money...all of your fears will cease...come...come to Hillary...she is the answer...she is the answer...”
