If you want to understand better why so many statesfrom New York to Wisconsin to Californiaare teetering on the brink of bankruptcy, consider this depressing statistic: Today in America there are nearly twice as many people working for the government (22.5 million) than in all of manufacturing (11.5 million). This is an almost exact reversal of the situation in 1960, when there were 15 million workers in manufacturing and 8.7 million collecting a paycheck from the government.
It gets worse. More Americans work for the government than work in construction, farming, fishing, forestry, manufacturing, mining and utilities combined. We have moved decisively from a nation of makers to a nation of takers. Nearly half of the $2.2 trillion cost of state and local governments is the $1 trillion-a-year tab for pay and benefits of state and local employees. Is it any wonder that so many states and cities cannot pay their bills?
Every state in America today except for twoIndiana and Wisconsinhas more government workers on the payroll than people manufacturing industrial goods. Consider California, which has the highest budget deficit in the history of the states. The not-so Golden State now has an incredible 2.4 million government employeestwice as many as people at work in manufacturing. New Jersey has just under two-and-a-half as many government employees as manufacturers. Florida's ratio is more than 3 to 1. So is New York's.
Even Michigan, at one time the auto capital of the world, and Pennsylvania, once the steel capital, have more government bureaucrats than people making things. The leaders in government hiring are Wyoming and New Mexico, which have hired more than six government workers for every manufacturing worker.

I doubt we can turn back...
Sadly, I agree. Things have gone too far. As long as the United States is strong and soverign, the New World Order/One World Government cannot be fully implemented. 0bama and his ilk are fixing that pesky problem.
What conditions fostered the departure of the U.S. Manufacturing Base to third world countries, and who were the parties responsible for the destruction of U.S. Manufacturing?
Both Parties were incentivized by Wall St and multi-national business to write trade pacts that allowed products to be imported from Asia, etc at will. The same Congress permitted these same trade partners to have import restrictions on our products. They hobbled US industry.
The real goal was to create worldwide market demand for Wall St and international corporations from those billions of people in other nations. They needed to give them our industry to do that. Wall St and these corporations don’t represent USA interests. They are behind amnesty, open borders and trade agreements that nullify our Constitution. Sovereignty is a dirty word to them.
I just heard where China (the country that the USA Congress made number one) is soon going to be using more oil than the USA. Not only do they have our jobs and dollars, they’ll now out compete us on resources. Free trade was a sell out of the USA to international business.
My interests are USA first. Steve Moore’s interests are his bankster owners that do not put USA interests first. They want to keep us squabbling about politics while the USA is sucked dry.
Moore can speak for himself - I’m into my 40th year is manufacturing.
Baby Boomer ethics at work.
They were called the “Me Generation” in the 70’s and that’s a very fitting title - it is truly all about them and getting theirs.
They used to mooch off their parents - but their parents are gone. So the government now fills in the role.
What do they care if they bankrupt their kids? They’re just owed it.
And that attitude is not going to change.
Before you say it: yep, it’s not your fault. Someone else’s gets to clean up the mess. Typical attitude of the “Me Generation”.
Big Gubamint Inc.
Understood; I’ve never heard of them factored into the 51:49 mix, so I’d imagine they could only displace their own race.
They have no choice; they’re doomed if present trends continue. Unless the misery is shared, the states with high taxes and tons of illegals/permanent underclass (a bit of a redundancy) will continue bleeding people, jobs, and most importantly, revenue.
Unfortunately, I tend to agree.
If you have children then I suggest you all kiss them goodbye. There will be NOTHING in their futures but poverty, misery, torment, and death. They are finished. They are as good as dead.
Again, I basically agree...
The government, super wealthy Wall Street insiders, their banksters co-conspirators and their two ruling class entrenched corrupt political parties in D.C., have all but left America dead on the floor.
Those that think they can vote away this all controlling, every expanding government cancer, are really stupid, or are part of the government, perpetuating this good cop bad cop propaganda.
You're swallowing the cool aid...It was Bush who made American citizenship all but pointless, called those that had a belly full "vigilantes" and stood by and watched our borders become a lawless violent nightmare.
So freaking bad, a street level neighborhood Communist from Chicago took his seat in the oval office...
Wise up...The differences between the two entrenched corrupt beltway parties are inconsequential and have played Americans as an applauding audience of utter fools.
“Public employees maintain that they are underpaid relative to equally qualified private-sector workers, yet they are deathly afraid of competitive bidding for government services.”
Only someone clueless enough to think that a degree in Political Science, Women’s Issues, or Black Studies constitute an education would believe that.
The differences between the two entrenched corrupt beltway parties are inconsequential and have played Americans as an applauding audience of utter fools.
I know and understand. Why else would this evil communist be allowed even near the White House? Where’s the outrage from Bush, Cheney, and a host of other powerful Republicans? Why didn’t the FBI expose the bastard back in 2006? It’s beyond disgusting...it’s Demonic.
Unfortunately this includes the military.
Well, the kicker is that in Kentucky Yum Brands—Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut, Long John Silvers—are lobbying the Governor to allow fast food restaurants to accept food stamps. That complete BS!

If you put the government payroll with the welfare roll, over 53 million people produce nothing and take it all.
Well, no surprise here since every morning you are waking up to a Chinese alarm clock, puting on Indian shirt and Malasian boots, driving hecho in Mexico car burning Venezuelian gas spending 8 hours to look for a job and still wondering where is it all gone.
Having been one myself (military, then State and/or Federal gigs) it’s really hard to impress upon the LibTards that I work with that GOVERNMENT produces NOTHING and consumes EVERYTHING IT TOUCHES.
They just can’t wrap their little pea-sized brains around that concept.
Fix the roads, haul my trash, give me cops, firemen, EMTs, a PART-TIME state legislature with TERM LIMITS and a public library (or private, for that matter) and that’s ALL I need from Mother Government.
But, alas, we’ll never see any of that ever again. *SIGH*
These guys could have stopped it with a phone call. They could have done the same with the tidal wave of illegal immigration.
This article sums up the Number 1 reason why I’m a conservative. I look on with horror—no hyperbole—as this once proud, self-sufficient nation turns into a nation of children who want someone else to pay their way.
In general, the art of government consists of taking as much money as possible from one class of citizens to give to another — Voltaire
