Rethinking Sarah Palin For President
Irish Examiner USA ^ | 3/29/2011 | By Alicia Colon

Although I have written several columns expressing my admiration for Sarah Palin, I admit I have never taken her seriously as a 2012 presidential candidate. I've always felt that her greatest asset was as a kingmaker and behind the scenes advisor. In addition I've assumed that she wasn't that interested in pursuing the job but rather enjoyed making waves in the liberal media. The more I read the continuing attacks on Palin and her family I've started wondering why the Democrats and their media lapdogs fear her so much. Even some conservative pundits have determined that she is unelectable because of her high negatives. Those negatives are actually bogus and based on lies and misinformation and there is really only one word to describe Sarah Palin - indomitable.

Bill Maher played to the lowest common denominator and insinuated that Palin was a "dumb tw**t" and his moronic audience cheered. Ari Fleischer, a former press secretary in the George W. Bush administration, said recently that he couldn't see "any way, shape or form that [Palin] can win" the White House. Naturally there was a Public Policy poll that determined that Democratic and Independent voters would vote for Charlie Sheen over Sarah Palin. The fact that there was even such a poll should indicate the vigorous campaign to minimize her credibility as a serious candidate. Who's paying for these skewered polls anyway?

The anti-Palin campaign stretches to foreign media where Canadian TV columnist John Doyle writes in the Globe and Mail that television forever killed Palin's chances to be president. He writes: "television duly destroyed the Palin authenticity. The arc of her national political career began with a defining speech at the Republican National Convention in September, 2008,

Wow, you best tell people who are posting those pics of Reagan handing the torch to Palin to cut it out.

I can tell from your post that you did not like Ronald Reagan.

The man was a 2 term Governor of the most populous state in the union. He was a fabulous and articulate speaker too.

He wrote many papers on policy and conservative philosophy. He ran for POTUS, lost and came back to win two terms.

I give up. I’m guessing you jumped into this thread at the point that you saw my post, without any attempt to see *why* I might have posted what I did. Go start a fight with someone else. I’m not interested.

“It is my understanding that the purpose of this site is not to foster debate. If I understand correctly, FR’s purpose is to advance conservative issues and candidates.”

Using one of your own posts, you set the tone yourself.
And claiming I am trying to “start a fight” by pointing out what you do not understand clearly illustrates my original point. In short, settle down. Nobody is attacking you here. Especially me.

The list of the candidates on your home page leads me to suggest the lord leads you to those who can't be elected as president in 2012.

Romans 3:8 (King James Version)

And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.

If I just looked at who could be elected, I guess I would vote Romney. But as you can read, the Bible causes one to look past such reasoning.

The conservative party really has no strong Reagan looking candidates right now. A weak Obama should easily be beaten, but face it, he would more than hold his own with what we have to throw at him. Also according to poll, Sarah looks almost dead last, so I would use some other angle to prop her up other than electability, cause she has ten tons of baggage dragging her down.

I will support the best conservative Christian candidate I can find come election day. I don't care if I have to write their name in, but you can bet your bottom dollar it will not be someone that thinks a person that doesn't like homosexuality is a homosexual themselves as Palin does.

I can see where she is coming from. I collected all things JFK when I was 6 or 8. He was a very popular figure, no getting around it.

But like the lady says, if we were older and knew what we know now, JFK would never have been elected.

So where was the “liberal debating” on this thread? Who was not defending conservative principles? All’s I saw was a poster that posted something that was not a fawning remark about Palin. Then that poster was called a troll and told to go to the DU.

Thanks for the link, reading puts the statement in perspective. JimRob says "I took it as she loves the FReepers and pass it on to all of you!!"

Meaning that he believes she likes FR, and he wanted us to know that. It was a very sweet of JR to share that with us, to build us up as important parts of the election cycle.

I did not get it as it was presented/referenced to me, that JR dictates all must bow to the mighty Palin on his forum.

Ah, so God demands that women shut up and stay in the kitchen.

Have you ever watched a movie where the lead character is portrayed as a blithering idiot. Don't you hate those kinds of movies. I by far prefer the intelligent lead roles.

If I had to place you in a ranking of movies right now, it would be Steve Martin in "The Jerk". Making up crap just to spout.

Enjoy yourself, you're far too dishonest for continuing to waste my time with.

Your main gripe with Sarah Palin seems to be that she's not male. The rest of your thoughts seem pretty scattered, so explain a few of them if you would please:

1. a person that doesn't like homosexuality is a homosexual themselves as Palin does. What are you talking about? That's a ridiculous statement.

2. according to poll, Sarah looks almost dead last Reagan was dead last in every poll at this point. He was 30 points behind Carter 6 months before the election. How do you square that?

I will support the best conservative Christian candidate I can find come election day. If that's true, and she wins the nomination, what will you do? None of your candidates are more conservative, nor particularly more Christian, so what are you talking about? How can you suggest she's not conservative or Christian?

They remind me of the Thompson crowd. Now there was a failed campaign from day one, but his rabid following drove thousands of people away from this forum in the process. And like Palin, he walked on water, healed the sick and brought the dead back to life.

Any tiny shred of concern or dislike for Thompson, brought the Wrath of God down on the blasphemer from the flock and the “abuse button” entries would nearly slow down the main server.

And before Thompson, there were the Alan Keyes purges in 2004.

My favorite part of the day was when a couple of the usual groupies started tearing down Reagan because palin’s resume of accomplishment in life is nowhere near his. Fully schizophrenic.

Since Gov Palin is a Reaganite. that makes no sense.

oh BTW did Reagan leave CA with a $12 billion surplus?

A) Take it up with your fellow groupies, it is they who tried to diminish RWR.

B) How hard was that to do in a state that receives more money back from DC than it sends in and after imposing a windfall profits tax on oil that was already hit with existing taxes and royalty fees.

Anybody who wants to argue that governing one of the least populous states (well under a million residents) for significantly less than even one full term is close to being comparable to governing the most populous state through some of the country's most turbulant years, doing it for two full terms and not quitting can only do so by ignoring reality....but go right ahead.

Note the state of Alaska has a population of fewer then 700.000 people. There are mayors of moderate sized cities in the US who are responsible for the governance of more people.

Alaska is a “welfare state” in that it recieves more money from the Federal Government then it pays in taxes. Not much of a trick to have a budget surplus in such a state.

In dealing with the oil companies, when did we view a government lording over private industry as a positive thing?

Palin is a fantastic spokesperson but does not have what it takes to dig us out of the hole that we are in.

If it's not much of a trick, how come the Federal Government can't manage to spend less that it receives?

You should realize before you step in it anymore that Ronald Reagan was elected as Governor of California in 1966, and ran against Nixon in the Republican Primary for President in 1968. He had more votes, but lost otherwise he would have served less than a half term as Governor before quitting.

Reagan is my second favorite President of all time, Lincoln being the first. Quit slamming Governor Palin for accepting the VP nomination, she was asked and RR ran,but did not win.

Of COURSE Sarah Palin is un-electable! She’s too stupid, too inexperienced, too conservative and too religious to EVER win the presidency! Not a chance!

But let her run anyway. What the heck? She CAN’T POSSIBLY win, so what would it hurt to let her run? Let her play out the string until the final embarrassment?

I’ll vote for her and donate. Damn right I will! And so will that guy. And that one. And those 30 FReepers over there. And those folks.

Hey, wait a minute ... everybody said she couldn’t POSSIBLY win. Then how did she ... oh, wow ...

If I just looked at who could be elected, I guess I would vote Romney. But as you can read, the Bible causes one to look past such reasoning.

I see. So you'd vote for a pro-choice, anti-gun, homosexual marriage promoter before you'd vote for a woman, let alone Sarah Palin? What a pillar of religious morality you are!

I will support the best conservative Christian candidate I can find come election day. I don't care if I have to write their name in, but you can bet your bottom dollar it will not be someone that thinks a person that doesn't like homosexuality is a homosexual themselves as Palin does.

Primary time: Palin vs. Romney. Who you voting for?
