Threats Claim Nuclear Bombs Hidden All Over U.S.
CBS Chicago ^ | March 30, 2011 | Staff

Posted on 03/30/2011 6:22:44 AM PDT by library user

CHICAGO (CBS 2) – The threats came in the mail and to date, there have been 25 letters that warn of nuclear bombs destroying America.

People who got them called the FBI and CBS 2′s Kristyn Hartman learned, the Bureau’s Chicago office is leading the investigation.

FBI Special Agent Andre Zavala said, “Yes, they alarmed a lot of people.”

Attorney Tracy Rizzo was alarmed. A number of days ago, an envelope, with a Chicago postmark and a hand-written address to her private investigations firm, came in the mail.

The letter inside said, “The Al-Qaeda organization has planted 160 nuclear bombs throughout the U.S. in schools, stadiums, churches, stores, financial institutions and government buildings.” It also said, “This is a suicide mission for us.”

The writer, who claims to be Osama Bin Laden, tells the reader the nukes are remotely controlled. “It was clear the writer wanted to scare me,” said Rizzo, “Yes, it frightened me.” Rizzo was one of eight people in the Chicago area to contact the FBI.

Agencies in Oregon, California, Texas and Florida also got the letter with the Chicago postmark.

“There are items in the letter that lead us to believe it is a hoax,” said Zavala. “There are several demands documented that aren’t fully coherent.”

He said much of what’s in the message doesn’t add up, but in a post 9-11 world, the FBI can’t let it go – even if it does appear to be a hoax.

“The FBI investigates every element. We can’t take that chance,” said Zavala.

So, why the threats?

The writer alluded to how families in Afghanistan have to live. The FBI said it will find that writer, and when it does, he could face 5 to 10 years in prison for each letter mailed. Anyone who’s received a similar letter should call the FBI.

The couldn’t put a LEGO set together, let alone a functioning nuclear device.

Pakistan is the only muzzy majority country with feasible claims of having nuclear weapons. More likely, they have nuclear devices, which are neither hardened or ballistic (although they claim otherwise).

Even if that were true, the difference between creating a "weapon" that can be set off at a dedicated site, with months if not years of preparation under the complete direction of a team of top muzzy "scientists", and having some illiterate caveman assemble a nuclear device (much less smuggle in the components) that's operable is equivalent to the difference between a successful moon landing and return, and throwing a rock at the moon.

I don’t believe this for a second. If moslems ever get the chance to sneak a nuke into this country it will be detonated within minutes of reaching its final destination.

The best clue to this being a hoax is this.

To put such a nuclear bomb into the places this person listed, would be risky. If you have a nuke, you don’t need to place it in such places. You can place it in any vacant obscure place you want. It’s a fricken nuke for heaven’s sake.

This person listed the most hot button places he could think of to scare people. By so doing, he completely blew his credibility.

You list cities if you’ve got nukes, not a hospital, a school, a police department, or some other individual target.

Well, Gunwalker was begun in 2005.

I think you'll find this kind of "end justifies the means" mentality rampant at every federal bureaucracy. Administrations come and go. The career bureaucrats that inhabit and infest these agencies remain.

The Democrats are The Party of Big Government, and these bureaucrats are natural constituents and powerful allies. Their positions and proximity mean that in many ways they have better access to and more opportunity to influence your own representatives than you do.

Hmm.

If so, why haven’t they popped them yet?

If they had even one to almost work, they’d have used it by now. IMHO.

It can’t possibly be real, Obama hasn’t gone on vacation since this article was posted.

Maybe it’s a pschological ploy. If you only have a few nukes, one way to maximize the terror would be to claim more, set your nukes off at erratic intervals and watch people go crazy waiting for the non-existent ones to take out another target.

And the trigger is the hardest part of the bomb to build. Again you might be able to build one or two at a university without everyone knowing. But 160, no freaking way.

The idea of "dirty bomb" comes to mind - it doesn't have to be Nagasaki to be a mess...

“There are several demands documented that aren’t fully coherent.” Written by Michael Moore?

A fudge banana rickshaw, an eternal cheese fountain, and a guaranteed lifetime supply of meat-suits are a small price to pay for safeguarding our nation.

Didn’t the UPS packaged bombs originate from a mosque center in Chicago?

Actually, it originated in Yemen, but was addressed to a Unitarian Church that was two doors down from an "islamic intutituion of America" or some such terrorist cover group.

One more thought...

With five nuclear weapons you could destroy as many as 50 million U. S. Citizens. With ten you could destroy as many as 100 million U. S. Citizens. Why would you bother with 160?

Granted, the ground level explosion of the small type nuke this person’s organization would be able to facilitate, wouldn’t be as strong as what the U. S. and other governments have, so my numbers could be excessive based on that concept.

Still, you don’t need 160 weapons to cause extreme havoc. We’ve got a mental midget trying to get some blackmail payoff. End of story.

Remember last month, a San Diego local news interview with an assistant port director was shown saying "weapons of mass effect" have been found on U.S. soil:

Dirty Bomb: Here And Now?

Stunning Response "Dirty Bombs (Nuclear) have been stopped at our border" it appears

Sadly, this sentence can also be used to describe Zero's Libya speech.

The idea of "dirty bomb" comes to mind - it doesn't have to be Nagasaki to be a mess

Absolutely. In WWII the Germans were working on a bomb at the same time we were. Fortunately for us the scientists who did a lot of the theoretical work on the pit (highly enriched core that allows for supercriticality) were Jewish and had to emigrate to the US. So they couldn't design a bomb that would go BANG successfully. However they came up with a design using alternating plates of Uranium and heavy diesel oil (an excellent neutron absorber). The plates were held apart by relatively weak bolts. When the bomb was dropped the bolts would break, the diesel fuel would be pushed out and the Uranium plates would slam together. It wouldn't be a Hiroshima style bang, but what you would have was a portable Chernobyl.

Of course you need a lot more material for a bomb of that type, we are talking close to a ton of enriched Uranium just be sure it worked. And there is no way the mad mullahs are going to get their hands on 160 tons of enriched uranium without anyone catching winds of it.

I guess I'm just biased by the old theory that anything known by more than three people will not stay a secret for long. You can put together one dirty bomb, or buy a single nuke from the Russians or North Koreans with a fairly small team. But getting your hands on enough material to make 160 dirty bombs is going to require a lot of people in a lot of countries. With a conspiracy that big news will inevitably get out.

And if it is just for propaganda, then they should claim that they had two bombs, and lets slip some believable details about where they got them from. The art of terror is based on making believable threats. If I threaten to kill you with an army of sharks with laser cannons on their heads you are going to laugh yourself into a fit. Even if I have the army of highly armed aquatic deep sea predators as advertised. But if i threaten to have a hired killer slit your throat in the parking lot it is a much more believable threat. And you will be looking over your shoulder on the way to the car, even if I don't hire the assassin.
