US launches fresh barrage of missiles at Tripoli

TRIPOLI, Libya — U.S. ships and submarines unleashed a barrage of cruise missiles at Libyan missile storage facilities in the Tripoli area late Monday and early Tuesday, an official said.

Later Tuesday, missiles targeted the tightly guarded residence of leader Moammar Gadhafi and military targets in the suburb of Tajura as NATO-led coalition aircraft were seen in the skies.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss U.S. military details, said 22 Tomahawk cruise missiles were launched from the Mediterranean — the most in at least several days.

The latest U.S. barrage raised to well over 200 the number of Tomahawks that have been fired at Libya since the Western military intervention began March 19.

The bulk of U.S. and NATO missile and bomb attacks on Libya have targeted air defenses, ammunition bunkers and other facilities that support Libyan ground forces and enable NATO to maintain a no-fly zone over the country.

The attack came hours after Libyan government tanks and rockets blunted a rebel assault on Gadhafi's hometown of Sirte on Tuesday and drove back the ragtag army of irregulars.

Rockets and tank fire sent Libya's rebel volunteers in a panicked scramble away from the front lines, before the opposition was able to bring up truck mounted rocket launchers of their own and return fire.

"NATO" isn't taking over till Thursday. Looks like Bami's stepping it up to try to save his war before NATO kicks in and the rebels really rout. Nobody kills more people than a liberal with good intentions. Hillary will be passing out RPG's tomorrow in Benghazi. She gets really upset when people make her look bad.

22 Tomahawk cruise missiles were launched

Same thing that clinton did in Yugoslavia. He used up the entire supply of cruise missiles and never bothered to replace them.

Then when Bush came in and replenished our supplies, they accused him of spending too much money on the military.

Funny - I havent seen a single piece of video from one of the sites we've hit, not one translated interview from a civilian on the receiving end.

Do we have any news media in Tripoli?

Obama is killing people so Gadhafi can't kill them.

It's a moral obligation.

Also helps Iran -- by depleting our missile inventory Hussein has effectively prevented any action against the mad mullahs in Tehran.

If we follow France's lead, we'll be shooting politicians soon too.

"We, the French and English, we consider that we must obtain more" than the end of shooting at civilians, Defense Minister Gerard Longuet said on France-Inter radio. He also said Libyan politicians could be targeted since they gave orders to the military.

I’ve got no problem with this. Throw as many bombs as you want. At Kadaffi forces. At rebel forces. WGAS.

It’s when Øbammie sends in the troops... THAT’s when enough will be enough.

I'm tired of making logical arguments and explaining why this recent Libyan ordeal is crap. We do not belong there, even near there. Our assets, weapons, assets and soldiers are being wasted and diverted from more important things. As long as Muslims are killing Muslims we need to stay out of it. This is bullshit.

I don’t have any video from Tripoli, but here is a short video and article from the battle to get to Sirte. Found it by Googling “Sirte Libya battle”. It said 2 hours old, but I don’t know if that was still true when I copied it.
