When he was president, George W. Bush’s international leadership was widely mocked and derided by his liberal critics, who loudly declared that his plain-talking style was undermining America’s image in the world. Even now, the Left cannot resists a dig at the ex-president, with former Obama adviser Rob Shapiro exclaiming to Fox News over the weekend:
The United States is no longer the out-of-control cowboy. Instead, we build global coalitions. We get the support of the Arab world. We get the support of Africa. We get the support of Europe.
Shapiro’s statement ignores the fact that the military alliance built by Bush to confront Saddam Hussein was significantly larger than the coalition on the ground now in Libya, that Europe remains divided over how to deal with Colonel Gaddafi (witness Germany’s abstention at the UN Security Council), or that the Arab League is barely lifting a finger, with one or two exceptions. As for Africa, so far not one member of the African Union has joined the no-fly zone operation. But the Left rarely lets reality get in the way of baseless conjecture.

Bush was a liberal, please lets not pivot back to Bush why not start with Reagan and work up?
When it comes to Iraq and the WOT I don’t know why anyone would tag Pres. Bush as a liberal.
Why start out with an attack on Pres. Bush? What’s your point? If any.
He did quite a bit. If he had just defended his own country’s southern border...

I heard the Shapiro interview and had to turn off the t.v. (I do that a lot lately). No one challenged his rewrite of history or distortion of the present.
Just what FR needs ... another BDSer.
My point is that Bush was a disaster for the conservative movement, plain and simple. He promoted ties with our enemies the Russians and continues to attack Americans who want our borders secured. Which is why we now have Obama and with the help of Bush’s TARP and expanding the power of the treasury secretary to dictatorial status which aided in this fundamental transformation.
Don’t think for a second that Bush and his people didn’t know who Obama was and look how proud they were of this seamless transfer of power as they called it to the current administration.
Thats my point, kind sir.
