Sex outside marriage should be illegal, says Parnell nominee
Anchorage Daily News ^ | 3/24/11 | Richard Mauer

Gov. Sean Parnell's appointee for the panel that nominates state judges testified Wednesday that he would like to see Alaskans prosecuted for having sex outside of marriage.

The candidate, Don Haase of Valdez, also admitted under questioning by members of the Senate Judiciary Committee that his official resume failed to disclose his leadership role in Eagle Forum Alaska, which advocates for social conservative issues. He most recently was president of the organization, but resigned when he learned of his nomination, he said.

Paskvan: "Do you believe [adultery] should be a crime?"

Haase: "Yeah, I think it's very harmful to have extramarital affairs. It's harmful to children, it's harmful to the spouse who entered a legally binding agreement to marry the person that's cheating on them."

Paskvan: "What about premarital affairs -- should that be a crime?"

Haase: "I think that would be up to the voters certainly. If it came before (the state) as a vote, I probably would vote for it ... I can see where it would be a matter for the state to be involved with because of the spread of disease and the likelihood that it would cause violence. I can see legitimate reasons to push that as a crime."

Haase then asked why those questions were relevant.

"You are injecting yourself into the judicial system and so I think it's fair inquiry," Paskvan replied. "If you have a motivation to limit who would be advanced to a judgeship ... then your beliefs and attitudes are important," Paskvan said.

Stupid and wrong direction.

What should be illegal is any profitable situation resulting from sex outside of marriage.

Welfare, free schooling for illegitimate children, child support, etc.

People should be free to sin. And everyone else should be free from having to pay for their consequences.

Sure! Legislating morality and punishing those who commit infractions sound a lot like TROP!

Regardless of whether you agree or disagree with him, the Supreme Court has pretty much ruled that any such laws are unconstitutional when they struck down all the state laws on Sodomy on privacy grounds.

"testified Wednesday that he would like to see Alaskans prosecuted for having sex outside of marriage"

I'll comment.

He's not fit for the office he's been nominated for.

And based on this nomination I question whether the Governor is fit for his.

You bet! It's morons like this who push independents toward the left and end up helping to elect people like Obama. Jesus Christ did not need Rome to enforce his beliefs.

Good heavens. Like there are not enough issues to worry about. I know this is silly beyond the constitutionality of it. There is an entire industry of Lawyers and Private Investigators who would fight tooth and nail to stop this. They gotta eat too.

I guess the Framers were Nanny Statists too? Since they passed laws banning Fornication, Blasphemy and Adultery?

He’s right. Sex outside of marriage has been illegal throughout most of man’s civilized history. There’s a good reason for that. That reason hasn’t changed.

It would be helpful to make it illegal against.

Sex without the benefit of marriage was unlawful in many states as was bastardy until fairly recently. Those laws were deemed unenforceable due to widespread violation so they were removed from the codes. Legislators hate to see their states listed in those Almanacs of stupid odd laws columns. “Hey did you know it is illegal to leave a horse saddled during church on Sunday even though you can not buy beer any day of the week in Hereford Texas?”

MI am no Libertarian, but I am a Constitutional Conservative I think more than half the country would be incarcerated in the event it was illegal. Of course it is against God’s law, a sin, which carries a heavy sentence already.

"laws banning Fornication, Blasphemy and Adultery"

Do you support such laws?

If so, how would you propose to enforce them?

And, should such law be state or federal?
