EU to ban cars from cities by 2050
The Telegraph ^ | 28 mar 2011 | Bruno Waterfield,

Cars will be banned from London and all other cities across Europe under a draconian EU masterplan to cut CO2 emissions by 60 per cent over the next 40 year. The European Commission on Monday unveiled a "single European transport area" aimed at enforcing "a profound shift in transport patterns for passengers" by 2050.

The plan also envisages an end to cheap holiday flights from Britain to southern Europe with a target that over 50 per cent of all journeys above 186 miles should be by rail.

Top of the EU's list to cut climate change emissions is a target of "zero" for the number of petrol and diesel-driven cars and lorries in the EU's future cities.

Siim Kallas, the EU transport commission, insisted that Brussels directives and new taxation of fuel would be used to force people out of their cars and onto "alternative" means of transport.

"That means no more conventionally fuelled cars in our city centres," he said. "Action will follow, legislation, real action to change behaviour."

The Association of British Drivers rejected the proposal to ban cars as economically disastrous and as a "crazy" restriction on mobility.

"I suggest that he goes and finds himself a space in the local mental asylum," said Hugh Bladon, a spokesman for the BDA.

"If he wants to bring everywhere to a grinding halt and to plunge us into a new dark age, he is on the right track. We have to keep things moving. The man is off his rocker."

I have doubts that the EU will be around by 2050. It’s basically a dictatorship.

Question: Will there be any Europeans in European cities in 2050?

They’ll be able to move the 40 or 8s around on the rail lines if there is any liberty minded individuals left in Europe in that timeframe.

The only ‘cars’ that will be allowed are beat up Mercedes, and Toyata pickups. One for kidnappings and the other for carrying Katushas, RPGs, recoiless rifles, 50 cals, and mortar tubes. Toyota-Mercs! When you absolutely gotta attack an infidel in a hurry!

The key word being "force." The very ugliest aspect of the evangelical Green movement is its totalitarianism. BTT.

Ahh, yes — the great socialist solution to everything:

Step 1: Kick yourself in the nuts.

Step 2: Results satisfactory, Yes/No?

Step 3: If No, repeat Steps 1 and 2, but harder.

There is no Step 4, because the Step 2 will always return "No" triggering continuous recursion that ends only in the death of the subject; be it an individual, a government, or an entire society.

Actually what I found ironic was that the EU recently effectively put in CAFE standards under the rubric of carbon emissions controls. They talked about this on Top Gear, so all the big supercar/ultra-luxury car makers (Bentley, Austen Martin, etc) have been forced to start making econo box crap cars to sell in addition to their normal ultra cars just to get past the EU rules.

This is such an example of of power hungry scum running a system. Any fool taking a look at things would realize that CAFE standards have been a miserable failure here, and that in fact that European system of high gas taxes has always been a much better approach to increasing average fuel economy (people use less gas when it costs more, this isn’t rocket science). However those EU bureaucrats have decided that they don’t have enough control I suppose, because there is no way any rational person can assume the small handfuls of $250k+ cars out there put out any appreciable amount of emissions. I don’t care if they get only 5 MPG, there’s only hundreds sold in a given year.

Already started. Why do you think 0 and his accomplices are pushing rail where it makes no sense to do so (I know, other than to buy votes with taxpayer money I mean) Why do you think the TSA gets more and more intrusive, but not more effective every day?
