JON HUNTSMAN JR. FOR PRESIDENT?
boblonsberry.com ^ | 03/28/11 | Bob Lonsberry

Posted on 03/28/2011 6:00:29 AM PDT by shortstop

There is only one way Jon Huntsman Jr. ends up on a national ballot in 2012.

As Barack Obama’s running mate.

Democrat vice president, maybe. Republican president, you’ve got to be out of your mind.

Silver Spoon Jonny’s dad has bought him a lot of things, but the White House won’t be one of them.

Never heard of him?

You’re not alone.

He’s a pretty boy with nice hair and a fake tan and all the substance of a rice cake. He’s a former governor of Utah and the current ambassador to China and after two years of sitting on his hands while that country raped this country, he’s making a triumphal return not just to America, but to presidential politics.

A shadow presidential committee is already formed.

Which happens when your dad is a billionaire.

And all up and down the East Coast, the commentators of the intelligencia are waxing poetic about his presidential credentials. He is, to them, the perfect Republican candidate.

Because he’s a Democrat.

Or some sort of drifting principle-free Republican who demonstrates his open mindedness by kicking his party’s principles in the head.

More correctly: By kicking his country’s principles in the head.

Long story short: I can’t stand this guy.

Why is that?

Because I’ve seen him in action. I’ve seen him campaign as one thing and govern as another. I’ve seen him con an electorate into supporting him, and then turn and slap that electorate across the face.

Doubt my word? Ask any Utahn about Silver Spoon Jonny’s idea to impose a state-based cap-and-trade system.

But that was then, this is now.

And in the wake of the rising of the tea party, does anyone really think this guy could win a single primary?

In a party which was just taken to the woodshed by true conservatives, is it likely a true liberal could get the nomination?

No way in h-e-double-toothpicks.

Jon Huntsman Jr. is exactly what almost killed the Republican Party. The intoxication of daddy’s money might make him think he’s got a shot, and that delusion may spread to anyone he’s writing checks to, but out here in the real world, where the voters are, this guy’s a joke.

Which gets me back to Obama.

If I were playing fantasy politics, and I were drawing up my tickets for next year, I’d see Huntsman as a rejected Republican wannabe picked up in a masterstroke of post-partisan bull crud by Barack Hussein Obama.

They could parade around the country together, Obama could say he reached across the aisle, and maybe enough people would be fooled to let him squeak out a second term.

What about Biden?

Huntsman’s got better hair.

So Democratic ticket, I could see that. Republican ticket, I’d quit the party.

In 2012, the Republican Party has to run a conservative. It doesn’t have to be Palin, it doesn’t have to be Gingrich, but it has to be a conservative. A genuine conservative.

Someone who believes in the principles of the Constitution. Someone who believes in the values of America. Someone who is something other than Democrat Lite.

And Jon Huntsman Jr. isn’t any of those things.

He and a great many others are mere Republicans of convenience. They hold their nose, have thinly veiled contempt for its base, and use it to advance themselves. They are skim-milk Democrats, enthusiastically drinking the Kool Aid of the left, only doing so in smaller doses.

But poison is poison.

And no is no.

And in the most recent election, the country said no to the administration Jon Huntsman Jr. has served for the last two years.

He should take the hint.

And so should the commentators.

It’s a good thing Silver Spoon Jonny bought his $3.6 million Washington mansion.

Because he’s never going to live at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

I've heard Huntsman's name mentioned as a possible Republican candidate but knew nothing about him. I'm posting this so other Freepers can see Lonsberry's reaction to a Huntsman candidacy. I value Lonsberry's opinion, so just based on this, count me out of any Huntsman fan club.

Mike Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough were hyperventilating at the thought of him running.

You can take it from there.

Here's all you need to know about Huntsman...

The Huntsman file

Here's what he said about Porkulus...

"It’s easy to criticize the bill and if you don’t like it, you don’t have to take the money. It’s pretty simple. I guess in hindsight we can all say that there were some fundamental flaws with it. It probably wasn’t large enough and, number two, there probably wasn’t enough stimulus effect. For example, a payroll tax exemption or maybe even a cut in the corporate tax…for small and medium-sized businesses for three years, for example. We will take the money."

Also, considering all the flak that Sarah Palin takes for resigning as governor (to thwart Pete Rouse's DNC hit squad in Alaska), Huntsman has quit TWICE for completely selfish reasons---first resigning as governor to become Obama's ambassador to China. And then he resigned that job when it became apparent to him that the Obama gravy train is derailed and that he might miss the boat in 2012 if he stayed in China.

Bottom line: This guy is a slimy, opportunistic RINO of the worst sort.

Yep. Hopefully they’ll divide the Mormon vote and cancel each other out.

Or maybe they’ll challenge Barry in a Rat primary? That would be sweet.

I doubt this guy will go that far but he will have some personal cash behind him I’m sure. Here’s a little bit about Huntsman Jr. as detailed on Wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Huntsman,_Jr.

Huntsman worked as a White House staff assistant in the Reagan Administration, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce and Ambassador to Singapore in the administration of President George H. W. Bush, and a Deputy United States Trade Representative in the George W. Bush Administration.

In November 2004, Huntsman was elected Governor of Utah with 57% of the vote, defeating Democratic Party nominee Scott Matheson, Jr.[11] He was re-elected in November 2008 with 77.7% of the vote, defeating Democratic Party nominee Bob Springmeyer.

At the 2008 Republican National Convention, Huntsman delivered a nominating speech for Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, the party’s nominee for Vice President.[13]

end snips....

My belief is that Obama has destroyed the Dem party beyond belief. Even if O resigned and the perfect candidate showed up, he would lose to anything with an R next to it. The only hope liberals have now is to keep the presidency by ‘picking’ the Republican. They will do this by destroying the true conservatives like Palin and Bachmann, and by convincing people that we can’t take a chance on removing Obama and we have to nominate a moderate.

Why is the republican party so eager to get obama reelected? They got him elected once, isn't that enough?

This is just a theory but the RINO elites seem to want to let zer0 keep the office and then elect Jeb Bush in 2016. Both of those choices are terrible for this Republic. It means that the Tea Party and the Constitutional Conservatives still have a lot of work to do to make sure we have a good ticket for the American people to vote on in 2012.

Hunstman is the only potential candidate that makes Myth look good in comparison. An Afflack Duck/Charlie Sheen ticket would be better than Hunstman.

He’s a king-sized RINO. He attacked the AZ illegals law and was until recently Obama’s ambassador to Red China. If he runs it should be in the democrat primary.
