He may not be able to compete in the Kentucky Derby, but he is surely as popular as the winner.
And with appearances on Oprah and across the U.S. it has certainly been an eventful first year for Einstein, the world's smallest horse, as he approaches his birthday.
Standing just 20inches tall, the horse attracted huge media interest when he was born in April last year.
Thousands queued at a farm in Barnstead, New Hampshire for a glimpse of him, but while human interest was high, he didn't have many friends of his own breed.
Now his quest to find buddies and his life at home with owners Charlie Cantrell and Rachel Wagner in Gilmanton, New Hampshire, will be published in a new a book to celebrate his birthday.
'This has been a remarkable year for us and for Einstein,' said Mr Cantrell, 44, who bought Einstein for their small farm along with his wife Rachel.
'We are both horse enthusiasts and we decided to get ourselves a miniature horse from the renowned breeder Judy Smith at a Miniature Horse Farm in New Hampshire.
'Einstein is the smallest horse on record ever to survive and when the news got out to the media the level of interest was incredible.
'The average weight of a newborn miniature horse is eighteen pounds. The average height at birth is twenty-one inches.
Einstein is all the remarkable because he shows no dwarf characteristics and is simply a very small miniature horse.
His mother Finesse stands a relatively tall 32 inches and his dad Painted Feather measures 30 inches.

I wonder if anyone will connect the dots between this little pony and all the horse evolution pictures in the biology textbooks? It ain’t evolution from one species into another, just the amazing changes within a particular species due to the information in its DNA.
Thank you!..................I kinda figgered that’s what it was...................
Who woulda thunk that now the stereotype of Russians would become that of staunch Capitalists.
Einstein is cute and me wants him, my precious, yess, yessss!
The first time I saw the picture, I thought it was a bong.
You'll never get "Whiplash" to change mounts.
You got that right, it would take the whining for pony to a whole new level. My in-laws use to raise miniature horses and donkeys when there was money in it, they would have done anything to have on that small.
It looks dwarfy to me. The head is out of proportion. I’ve been around minis for a number of years and usually when they get that small they are dwarf.
Cute little guy though.
Any time!
I’ve always presumed he was some sort of smarmy Russian arms dealer.
Cute little bugger. Our dog is bigger than that horse is, and would probably like to play with it.
LOL. I love the way the big horse is looking at the camera, as if to say, “You’re kidding, right?” Or “Where do the batteries go?” Or maybe just “WTF?”
The article says they are ‘just friends’...................
“I believe that our outdoor attack cat, in charge of mice control, is larger that that.”
That’s why having a friend as big as Hannah is a good idea.
Thats what I was thinking, wonder how yrs this animal would live
I don’t know what he paid for his wife nor do I know what I paid for mine since I am not even close to finishing paying for her.
My dogs are bigger.
Einstein shows several dwarf characteristics. The size of his head compared to his body, the short length of his neck, his terribly roached back (although I admit that can not be seen in this particular photo, it is CLEARLY obvious in the photos as he ages). So sad to see such a poorly conformed horse held up for the public to view as a miniature horse. There are so many shining examples of what a well conformed miniature horse looks like. He’s such a sweet little thing, so sad to see him being paraded around as something he isn’t. I hope his deformaties don’t cause him pain and suffering as he ages, but sadly I know they will. Poor little guy.
