So if a Catholic math teacher wants to go to Rome at the same critical time of year, they get to go, right?

This entire situation smells highly of a total set up. Oh wait. This DOJ wouldn’t do that, now would they? Enough of this already.

What was it Nancy Reagan used to say? “Just Say NO”.

This is a lie .Plenty of Muslims never make a haij. Plus if she feel conscience stricken, Islam law allows her to hire a substitute.

We can’t get these unAmerican scumbags out soon enough. This means Eric Holder and his racist Justice Department. Get Obama out in 2012 or this country is gone

The Feds are sending a message that we will bankrupt your small town via litigation. Therefore don’t defy us on Muslim stuff or anything else.

Muslims are the chosen people of these black racists — Obama and Eric Holder.

The Haj is on a lunar calendar, the school work year is on a solar one. Wait a few years and the Haj wil fall during school vacation. A math teacher should be able to figure out when. Go then.

She gets the summers off right? Can’t she actually fit in her religous duties in her copious time off like the rest of us?

Give me a break, there’s nothing that says you have to go during a particular year, just some time during her life!

She can easily go after she retires.

The government is seeking back pay, damages and reinstatement for Khan, and a court order requiring Berkeley schools to find ways to accommodate religious practices.

A trial date has not been set.

This is crap. This person resigned... gave up a job voluntarily. There is no grounds to sue after doing that.

Of course, since when do trivial things like the law mean anything to this regime.

That’s crazy. 3 weeks? What other job could you just leave for 3 weeks during a critical time for a vacation. How does the fact that it is a religious inspired vacation change anything?

Could a Catholic get three weeks off to go tour the Vatican? Could a Scientologist take three weeks off at a peak time to go do whatever it is they do?

Justice Department lawyers examined the same set of facts and reached a different conclusion: that the school district’s decision amounted to outright discrimination against Khan. They filed an unusual lawsuit, accusing the district of violating her civil rights by forcing her to choose between her job and her faith.

------------------

"The Corner" (Mar 21, 2011): Civil Rights for Me, But Not for Thee [excerpt] The Washington Times reports on yet another frontier where the Obama Justice Department thinks civil-rights laws apply only to minorities of color. This time it’s bullies. As the Times reports, if you’re a white punk, you’ll get their attention. If you’re a white victim of bullying, though, then you’re on your own. The view on the left that civil-rights protections are meant only for minorities goes back quite a ways; it is only in the Obama administration that civil-rights color-consciousness has been turned up to 11 (though it might have been this bad under Clinton had his first choice for the DOJ civil-rights division, Lani Guinier, been confirmed in 1993).

The view that civil-rights laws should not be color blind was perhaps most explicitly asserted way back in 1985, when Mary Frances Berry and Blandina Ramirez, two longtime leftist stalwarts on the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, issued an official statement in their roles as commissioners that said, “Civil rights laws were not passed to give civil rights protections to all Americans, as a majority of this Commission seems to believe. Instead, they were passed out of a recognition that some Americans already had protection because they belonged to a favored group; and others, including blacks, Hispanics, and women of all races, did not because they belonged to disfavored groups.”

Draw deeply on that first sentence: “Civil rights laws were not passed to give civil rights protections to all Americans . . .” That would come as news to the folks who wrote the Civil Rights Act of 1964.....[end excerpt]

I wonder if Fox News has done a story on this. It makes me just sick-been thinking about it all day.
