Libya: the West and al-Qaeda on the same side
The Telegraph (UK) ^ | March 18, 2011 | Richard Spencer

Statements of support for Libya's revolution by al-Qaeda and leading Islamists have led to fears that military action by the West might be playing into the hands of its ideological enemies.

WikiLeaks cables, independent analysts and reporters have all identified supporters of Islamist causes among the opposition to Col Gaddafi's regime, particularly in the towns of Benghazi and Dernah.

An al-Qaeda leader of Libyan origin, Abu Yahya al-Libi, released a statement backing the insurrection a week ago, while Yusuf Qaradawi, the Qatar-based, Muslim Brotherhood-linked theologian issued a fatwa authorising Col Gaddafi's military entourage to assassinate him.

I am not so sure that it is a miscalculation on Obama's part. He may know that he is helping Al Qaeda

You beat me to it.

Dictators everywhere are going to figure out that nuclear programs buy deterrence, whereas the termination of nuclear programs buys Western attack.

On two threads, you're the only person I've noticed who has offered this good point.

I am not a Khaddafy fan, however, and still think he is responsible for the balance of the two death sentences that were never meted out to his underlings, and for his own guilty involvement in the Lockerbie bombing, and as well for the punishment yet to be measured out to the mullahs who originally commissioned the bombing as a revenge attack for the "Robocruiser"/Vincennes affair -- after they accepted our apologies and our reparations.

I'm not pretending to offer the last measure of justice or the last word in well-drawn statecraft, but merely to point out that there are unpaid bills still pending from Lockerbie.

The problem of groupthink among our elites is being exacerbated by Advanced Placement tests in our high schools. Teachers teach to the test and students only learn what’s on the test.

The amount of bias is high as you’d expect and the lessons of history get lost. Santayana said those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. What good is knowing false history?

Excellent analysis. We simply come off as bully and the bad guys learn this.

American foreign policy is a mess.

One particular point they mention that the msm is not covering - before we went into Iraq we gave them an ultimatum and many offers to settle differences peacefully. There was no ultimatum or attempt to negotiate - we just started bombing. Not a good precedent.

no matter whether the names, dates or places are specifically correct, the summation about the death cult ideology seems spot on...will cannot ‘talk’ these people into ‘civility’ any more than we can reason with a pack of rabid coyotes...

Personally, I say we should keep out of it and let the raghead douchebags off each other as much as possible.

But this is FuBO’s moment to prove he has cajones, I guess.

Hey...wonder when the Code Pink witches, diesel dykes, and other libtard commief*cks will show up and protest “this latest unjust war”?

Hmmm....[crickets....wind in the trees....]

YES!
I’ve had to educate some friends and family members.
Conservative Republicans, no less!
My husband was one of them although he wasn’t really on board with what I was telling him until he read some op-ed pieces today that VALIDATED my position.

You got my curiosity up, here is ANSWER protesting in different Cities March 19 including DC.
ANSWER [Act Now to Stop the War and End Racism] :'End the wars and occupations in Iraq and Afghanistan! Stop the bombing of Libya!'

I didn't even know about this protest. These lefty communist folks are competing with the public sector union protesters and their idiot supporters that don't know that they are the ones that will end up paying the higher taxes to those unions.
