The combination of high oil and gasoline prices, rising food costs, higher health insurance premiums and the likelihood of future inflation has jarred consumer confidence, creating a major crisis for the Obama administration.
The collapse has been sudden and dramatic.
In December, the consumer confidence scale in the Rasmussen Poll stood at 81.7 percent. But in January, euphoria set in. Obama compromised on the George W. Bush tax cuts, the nation seemed to be coming together after the Giffords shooting and a Republican House sat poised to stop any new spending or social experimentation. On Jan. 11, the Rasmussen confidence index rose to 88.3.
Then reality dawned. Unemployment remained persistently high, economic growth was largely stagnant and partisan bickering resumed. The confidence level on Feb. 11 dropped to 84.5.
Then the bottom fell out. The daily Rasmussen polling reflected a drop day after day until, by March 11, the index had fallen to 73.1, its lowest level since it registered a 69 in July of 2009, in the depths of the recession.
The false dawn of January has faded and the hard, cold reality of a likely second recession is setting in. But this recession is accompanied by the likelihood of inflation, a stagflation syndrome that will probably grip America for years. And which will likely take a manmade recession, on the order of 1979-82, to counter it.
Will Obama get reelected? No way! In the teeth of the economic catastrophe that is shaping up, his chances are doomed.
The tsunami in Japan, perhaps the greatest tragedy since 9/11, will further impede any prospect for economic growth. There will be a demand for spending to repair the devastation of the quake. But Japan is tied with China as the world's second largest economy, generating 12 percent of the global GDP. With Japan neither producing nor buying for the foreseeable future, the drag on the global economy will be profound.
Worse, the Fed and the administration are out of tools to help. Interest rates are already at zero. Fiscal stimulus -- the deficit -- already consumes 40 percent of our total government outlays. The Fed is printing money at a ferocious rate under its qualitative easing (QE-2) program. What is left to do?
Only dramatic cuts in the federal deficit, a rollback of regulations that cripple small and community banks, a cancellation of future tax increase plans, a big reduction in federal spending, repeal of ObamaCare, freeing manufacturing from the prospect of carbon taxation and unleashing our domestic energy potential can solve our problems. But Obama is not about to undo his legacy of disaster for the American people.
And then there is the longer-term oil and gasoline crisis. Instability in the Middle East is going to mount, not recede. The chances of disruption in Saudi oil supplies and the possibility of an overthrow of the regime (triggered by the best efforts of Iran) will continue to force prices upward. The drag on the economy and the rising consumer discontent in the United States spell further problems for the Obama presidency.
As the Rev. Jeremiah Wright said -- outrageously and wrongly -- about 9/11, "the chickens are coming home to roost." The policies of this administration -- the disastrous overspending, the irresponsible borrowing, the social experimentation -- all are magnifying and amplifying the impact of the recession. Relief is not going to come anytime soon.
Instead, the true legacy of the Obama years is likely to be stagflation and an entire decade wiped out by his policies, budget and programs. Long after he is gone in 2013, we will still be repairing the damage of his terrible decisions.
To his credit, I don't know anyone who suspected the depths of racism in this Country.

Perhaps this explains Obama’s increasing detachment from the responsibilities of office (not that he ever knew how to handle them in the first place).
If he’s perceptive enough to understand that he probably doesn’t have much chance of re-election - and I believe he is - he’s probably come to the realization that “if that’s all there is”, it’s time to break out the booze and have a ball (if that’s all, apologies to Peggy Lee).
I would expect to see him golfing a lot more between now and January 2013.

Right now, I don’t see any of the anointed GOP front-runners beating him, certainly not Romney or Huckster.
Palin at least does have some potential upside to challenge, but it’s going to be tough.
I believe Palin will battle and win the Republican nomination. I believe right out of the gate she will be like Patton, always on offense. That said, it will be a herculean task for her to win. She will have the MSM in its most rabid mode in history. The Marxist will somehow steal tens of billions of the unspent stimulus money and funnel it into his utterly corrupt campaign.
Sarah can handle all of that well, but what will give her the biggest problem will be the elites on the Republican side. The Bushites and other RINOs will mount a full court attack on all fronts against Sarah. It will be unrelenting right up until the end. The Socialist Bushes along with the other disgusting RINOs and virtually all the RNC leadership will be non-stop behind the scene trying to destroy Sarah.
Sarah will win because two reasons: One, she is a genius at political warfare; and two, enough Americans will see through the lies of the MSM, the Marxist and the contemptible GOP RINOS to push Sarah to victory (EV > 370)
Can’t say yet that I share your optimism, but I’m willing to see what she does in the primaries, I think she does have the advantage of low expectations, so if she can surprise people, she will rise fast.
The GOP is whipped by the media and TV. They try to do anything and they are attacked. Keep watching TV because it helps Obama. Fox is no better. I understand your concerns. I knew of Sarah before the 08 election. I suggest you view her youtube debates from 06 for governor. You will see a fearless fighter who surprises her opponents. Sarah has always been underestimated. Which is good for her.
If you haven't read her first book, then please do. It's a fascinating read. It left me convinced she is a true fiscal conservative who truly loves her Country.

I have been an optimist for four decades but I just don’t have it in me anymore. I am not raining on your parade but I feel horrible for my small children. When we were born as Americans it was considered winning the lottery of life. They were born as future slaves to the debt of our bloated government and entitlements. Debt has consequences and we are in serious danger of losing our big advantage with the status of the dollar.
Consider for a second that the “energized GOP House” who were just propelled to victory by people like us who were upset about government spending can’t even find the stones to push through a 2% spending cut. 2%!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you kidding me?
These are the people we are going to look towards to save our nation? We are literally approaching the point of no return and I don’t think the GOP can reverse the trend. Obama is a popular target and his administration is obviously a trainwreck of radical liberalism but he has mostly accellerated by a decade or two the point we were headed for all along...... under both parties.

Fact - Any Republican who proposes cutting entitlements will be voted out on their butts in a minute. Watch how people on this forum respond to common-sense discussions about cutting social security. It is an absolute fact that entitlements alone will bankrupt our nation. They don’t care.
There are not enough of us left who would gladly tighten our belts and live with inconvenience to make sure our children had a promising future.

Sorry, just calling it like I see it now. I really hate to say it but the best thing for my kids might be for this whole bloated beast “we” allowed to be created in our name to simply implode. There are plenty of us out here in flyover country that will survive and hopefully return to the constitution with less government and more freedom. When they can’t cut 2% out of this budget we are in trouble.

Maybe the reason Barry hasn’t produced a valid certificate of birth is that it doesn’t exist.
