Could any of this be done by ecoterrorists since the earthquake?

You really think that rescue operations in Japan are being taken away from the earthquake and tsunami efforts?

Seriously.

Thank you for posting- I think the concern is more over the spent fuel rods emitting radiation. No one expects a nuclear explosion- not possible given the circumstances.

Theres a lot to consider- and experts abound on all sides. All we can do is watch, learn and pray.

How would we know? All we hear about is the nuclear plant, with fake fear mongering.

I lived in PA during the Three Mile Island problem. If you listened to the news, you would have thought that half the state needed to be evacuated and all the food supply destroyed, especially the dairy cows. They were testing that milk all the time. Nothing much really happened.

but building inaccessible due to radiation...

Darn it, it was only a matter of time... Some of those guys have probably already received lethal doses. Even the original 400 mSV level exposure, for a 12 shift, may mean death in a few months for some.

I imagine it’ll be burning. There’s no way they can sift through it all. It’ll have to start happening by the weekend or there will be the danger of disease.

I think you're right.

The path of devastation is simply to huge, and the time and manpower too short, to attempt to sift through all of it for bodies. I'm sure there are gov't health officials who are tasked with making a decision on this within the next day or so.

The burning, itself, will likely cause even more emotional loss for the Japanese people (on top of everything they've already endured).

I wish there was a better solution for them, but I don't think there is.

2235: Tepco spokesman Hajimi Motujuku says the fire at reactor four is in the outer housing of the containment vessel. Its cause is not yet known, AP reports.

OK, thanks. Sorry I barked, but 97% of the people here think “scram” means running downhill fast. Which, I guess it sort of does.

The BBC’s Matt Frei in Tokyo says spent fuel rods in reactors five and six are also now believed to be heating up.

Why would they be heating up? Don't they just sit there in the pool? What is changing?

The problem I have with this comparison (and the many like it on all these threads) is - most of this information is not coming from the MSM, these updates and numbers are coming from the Japanese government, rescue operations and the power company.

btw, if anyone wants some Thyroshield (liquid form) I happen to know a website that is getting a shipment this week. Don’t know a thing about it or if it works or if the site is reliable.

It is one of those disaster preparedness sites. If you want the name of it just PM me.

I hope Japan is handing out some tablets to it’s citizens.

The reactors in question were all shut down four days ago. The control rods have been inserted, and the cores have been salted with boron. It is physically impossible for them to sustain a fission reaction of any kind at this point, let alone cause another Chernobyl.

So if the control rods that house the nuclear fuel pellets melt, what then?

I haven’t the foggiest- unless all the activity around the others combined with the earthquake/tsunami has done some to the water level in the pool(s)?

How about "withdrawn," please ditch the insider lingo.

Actually, when the reactor is scammed, the rods are INSERTED, not withdrawn. The control rods slow the reaction down.
