The BBC’s Matt Frei in Tokyo says spent fuel rods in reactors five and six are also now believed to be heating up. Why would they be heating up? Don't they just sit there in the pool? What is changing?

I haven’t the foggiest- unless all the activity around the others combined with the earthquake/tsunami has done some to the water level in the pool(s)?
