Cap'n Crunch sails into obscurity (Nanny-Statism has killed my favorite cereal!)

The Soggies have finally won: Cap'n Crunch is quietly sailing into retirement.

Long derided by health experts for its high sugar content – a single serving contains 12 grams – the cereal is no longer being actively marketed by Quaker, DailyFinance reports. It appears parent company Pepsico is forcing the good Cap'n to walk the plank.

Cap'n Crunch was once the No. 1 breakfast cereal, but pressure from the White House and health activists is having an effect on how PepsiCo and other food companies peddle their products to kids. Sales of the cereal were down 6.8 percent in 2010.

“First they came for the Captain Crunch. I said nothing, because I did not eat much Captain Crunch. Then they came for the Sugar Smacks. I stayed quiet, because I did not have any in my cupboard...”

The heartless liberals will leave us with Wheaties and Puffed Rice. DAMN THEM ALL TO HELL!

I still (even this last Sunday!) eat all of the “regular” cereal in my bowl and then eat all of the crunchberries as “dessert”. Never changed from when I was a kid.

I loved Crunchberries. I didn't care much for the main cereal, but I would pick every single crunchberry from the box if I got half a chance.

He should have been a Somali pirate. Then he would have been safe.

I still go through Captain Crunch spells where nothing is better.

Food Nazis, is there anything worse than Food Nazis?

Especially the peanut butter Captain Crunch.

Yes, that stuff is especially good. If I didn't have a sensitivity to milk, I could eat two or three big bowls in one sitting.

The days they make Crunch Berrys is the one day of good smells here in the city of Five Smells (Cedar Rapids, IA home to the worlds largest cereal plant).

i read thru the comments so far.. and i'm left wondering... wtf is wrong with you people? is this DU or FR?

from the article:
Cap'n Crunch was once the No. 1 breakfast cereal, but pressure from the White House and health activists is having an effect on how PepsiCo and other food companies peddle their products to kids.

it's being discontinued NOT because of poor sales... but POLITICS. pure nanny state. and you people are ok with this?

you call yourselves freepers?!
