With the first fine of $100 for missing a floor period kicking in today, Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald said he's nearing the end of tools he can use to cajole Dems back to the Capitol.
"I've just about exhausted everything available to me to try and compel them to come back," Fitzgerald said after the Senate adjourned.
The Senate will be back tomorrow for the final day of the scheduled floor period for March, meaning Dems face at least $200 in fines each if they aren't on the floor tomorrow as well. Fitzgerald said the body could come back in special session before the next scheduled floor period starting April 5, and the fines would apply to those special session days as well.
Fitzgerald said the next step could be to go to court in an attempt to force Dems back. A constituent of state Sen. Jim Holperin unsuccessfully sought in Oconto Court to persuade a judge to force the Conover Dem to return. But Fitzgerald noted the judge said it was first up to the majority leader to exhaust all tools at his disposal before going to court.
Attorney Jim Troupis helped with the Oconto County complaint and has been advising Senate Republicans on issues like the resolution allowing missing Dems to be arrested. Fitzgerald said Troupis kept him in the loop on the Oconto case and could be used for consultation on further legal action going forward.
Voter ID has a financial component - free ids to the mythical “too elderly” and “too poor” to afford a $5 id.
Obstructing the official business of the state of Wisconsin. Help from Democrats out of state. Is this a RICO-defined conspiracy?
Concur. Pass every bill the RATS hate. I cannot comprehend the GOP laziness and willingness to play this game. This is a GIFT to enact everything the RATS and their media handmaidens hate.
Stop talking and just do it!
I can tell you that the a number of the talk radio people here in Milwaukee are taking calls from more and more people pissed (me included) that nothing is being done in Madison by the GOP. Vikki McKenna was noticeably frustrated when speaking with Walker today that NOTHING is being done.
Pass something that doesn’t need a quorum (Voter ID, Right to Work, Illegal Immigration)! Instead we get daily reports about how hard the GOP is trying to get the Dems back and how exasperated they are that nothing is getting done.
We elected this government in WI to get done! Instead we get hand wringing and roll overs while trying to say that look we’re not as mean as the Dems say we are.
They better be planning on declaring their seats vacant after 30 days because at this point I am ready to join 26% of Republicans polled in WI that disapprove of the way Walker and the GOP are handling this.

Stop trying...shut down the government ...pass out the pink slips and let them rot.
“Trying hard” and good intentions will get them nowhere.
If they were serious, why couldn’t they have had a $1000/day fine instead of $100?
Fighting by Marquess of Queensberry rules in a brawl will just get your ass kicked and make you look dumb. The GOP never learn.
What have you done, other than whine?
Don’t “cajole”.....FIRE THEM!
and, then, go buy yourself some nuts.
No wonder there are so many advertisements for VIAGRA...
Right to work
School vouchers
Prevailing wage repeal for govt projects
Cut off tuition support for colleges
Lower requirements for teaching certificates to 1865 levels.
I guess other than financially supporting my State Senator, writing and calling my representatives with support, going to my local school board meetings to find out what their plan is and involving friends that are not keeping up with these issues not a damn thing...
But just for you I’ll make sure I do something more than whine...
We could set up an NPR like sting. Contact an aide for one of the reps and say a big union donor wants to meet for lunch at a Shoneys inside Wis.
All but the last one have a financial component, so require a quorum.
But there are many others they could do.
Then start passing laws that don’t require a quorum. Make hay while the sun is shining.
Gah!
Other than passing [or how about REPEALING] a ton of laws that “We can’t pass because the democrats don’t like them”, how about:
* Passing a law making it a felony for an elected official to refuse to perform the duties of the office.
* Doubling the fine each day
* Removing ALL expense accounts (as in, office staff are not allowed to send mail, fax machine unplugged, ...)
* Putting office staff on unpaid leave.
* Find them guilty in abstentia of “contenpt of congress”
* Expel them
* Isn’t this a census year? Does Wisconsis need to do any redistricting?
Yea, and that's the way to get your face crushed into the pavement and that's just what the united progressive front is doing to the WI Republicans.
I agree - getting back to this late but Vicki has been doing yeomman duty...but one talk show gal can’t go up against Soros-funded campaigns under the banner of OFA and the DNC.
She is right now giving Gov. Walker holy hell on her WIBA show, and good for her! He says he understands and will get the bill passed in the next few days.
Tick tock tick tock
100% dead on!

So they get paid for not showing up for their job? Must be a democrat judge. Their pay is not being withheld, it is being accumulated in a very safe place (the center desk drawer of their office desks in the Capital Building).
They can be "arrested" and compelled to show up for a Senate session but they must be paid when they are in contempt of the Senate? Strange world we live in...

IDs are $10.
I cannot think of one area of public life for anyone, whatever age, whatever level of dependency, that does not require ID. You need ID for benefits. You need ID for Medicare/Medicaid/SSI.
I first want them to establish how many legal citizens lack ID. I don’t see how there can be any. If they find someone, I will be surprised.
Thanks for giving us the updates on the WI congressional actions for today .... /sarc
