Scott Fitzgerald says he's exhausted ways to cajole Dems back

With the first fine of $100 for missing a floor period kicking in today, Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald said he's nearing the end of tools he can use to cajole Dems back to the Capitol.

"I've just about exhausted everything available to me to try and compel them to come back," Fitzgerald said after the Senate adjourned.

The Senate will be back tomorrow for the final day of the scheduled floor period for March, meaning Dems face at least $200 in fines each if they aren't on the floor tomorrow as well. Fitzgerald said the body could come back in special session before the next scheduled floor period starting April 5, and the fines would apply to those special session days as well.

Fitzgerald said the next step could be to go to court in an attempt to force Dems back. A constituent of state Sen. Jim Holperin unsuccessfully sought in Oconto Court to persuade a judge to force the Conover Dem to return. But Fitzgerald noted the judge said it was first up to the majority leader to exhaust all tools at his disposal before going to court.

Attorney Jim Troupis helped with the Oconto County complaint and has been advising Senate Republicans on issues like the resolution allowing missing Dems to be arrested. Fitzgerald said Troupis kept him in the loop on the Oconto case and could be used for consultation on further legal action going forward.

It was also recently disclosed that withholding paychecks was determined to not be legal, so that option is out.

They'd better hold special sessions each and every day. Otherwise the Fleebaggers will just stay on vacation until April 5 scot-free.

It sounds like Fitzgerald is setting the stage for legal action - but will they have the guts to actually do it?

We know what would already be happening if the tables were turned and RATS were in charge.

Sure would save time if Illinois Tea Party members would just drag one of their asses across the stateline!

They should have to pay taxes on every dime that’s given to them. And none of this should be a tax deduction. They love taxes so much. Let ‘em pay some!

Actually, the senate should vote to change the rules then vote. It’ll go to court but how long will that take?

That would be the thing to do, but republicans always seem to want to play “fair”

The should think ... “WWADD”

what would a democrat do”

Walker and Fitzgerald need to bring this to a close quickly. This can’t rest until they come back in session in April. Hopefully they have a plan and are keeping it close to their chests. Maybe O’Keefe is videotaping the dems in compromising situations????

All that I seem to glean from any of these republicans is that they are tired and can't do anything more... will they surrender next?

I noticed the media has stopped trying to pressure the GOP and encourage the fleebaggers with stories about Walker's 'dwindling popularity'.

I guess people weren't buying any of it.

They could also pass the non-financial stuff without the Dems. which is what the whole thing is all about.
