59.9% of the USA population is between 18 and 65 (i.e. generally accepted employment age)

That is 184,938,577 million workers.

0.001% of that number would be..... 184,939

Number compiled from these Demographics

If the number of new employees is right, then they are in the ball park.

But, is that number right?
Layoffs at 11 Month High

Challenger, Gray & Christmas released their February 2011 layoff report which shows layoffs surged 32% in February to 50,702.

The 50,702 job cuts announced last month was up 32 percent from January’s 38,519. It was 20 percent higher than the 42,090 planned layoffs announced in February 2010. This marks the first year-over-year increase in monthly job cuts since May 2009 when job cuts totaling 111,182 surpassed the 103,522 layoffs announced the same month a year earlier by seven percent.

While Challenger, Gray & Christmas seem to be blaming high gas prices, the details in the layoffs paint a different picture:

The largest portion of layoffs last month came from government and non-profit employers, which announced 16,380 job cuts, up 154 percent from 6,450 in January and 196 percent higher than a year ago when 5,528 job cuts were announced in February. While most of the cuts occurred at the state and local level, the United States Postal Service announced that it reduced its headcount by 5,600 in recent months. excerpted

The unemployment rate ticked lower to 8.9% in February from 9.0% in the previous month.

I'm very curious how that number keeps dropping when supposedly additional unemployed rejoined the "searching for work" group.

These numbers are blatantly false! It's not so much that they are wrong, but they are cooked.

What is going to happen to markets when the true figures come out? We are building another bubble. How far will the media let this go before the truth overwhelms the cooked numbers?

I play the markets for a living, and I've never seen numbers as jiggled as these. This will end badly.

A few seasonal workers are going back to work ( construction, roofers , landscapers , etc...). In my current job, I am laidoff for a few months every winter. I have had this for the past couple of years. I think that may be one reason for a slight dip in the numbers. Along with the padding by the current admin., it would look like a big gain in unemployment but really not.

Even the Sunshine Obama Lovers on CNBC admitted this morning that the “base lines” for counting unemployment changed in February, giving us these thoroughly bogus numbers. No doubt, they’ll change several more times so the unemployment rate will be below 8% before the election next year. Bet on it.

How many of these “jobs” are government jobs? I hear the IRS is needing a lot of new agents. And how many of those no longer listed as unemployed dropped off because their unemployment benefits ran out?

From Zero Hedge:

“Wonder why the unemployment rate is at an artificially low 8.9%? Three simple words: Labor Force Participation. At 64.2%, it was unchanged from last month, and continues to be at a 25 year low. Should the LFP return to its 25 trendline average of 66.1%, the unemployment rate would be 11.6%. And indicatively, the Birth/Death adjustment was +112,000.”

Just wait until all those “discouraged” workers come back onto the rolls and start trying to look for work again. Sorry, but I have a hard time believing anything other than the U-6 number.

If you are unemployed because your job got outsourced, you are not counted as officially unemployed. That is because someone in another country is doing the job for cheaper .

It’s Win Win.
