EPA Reverses Itself on Fluoride
FoxNews.com ^ | February 22, 2011 | By Deirdre Imus

For decades, fluoride has been marketed and heralded as essential for good dental hygiene and used in most toothpastes and mouthwashes. In addition, parents have been routinely encouraged to give their kids cavity-fighting fluoride treatments when they visit the dentist. ...

But that was then and this is now. In a surprising reversal, last month EPA’s announced that it intends to lower the maximum amount of fluoride in drinking water because of growing evidence supporting the chemical’s possible deleterious effects to children’s health.

In 2006, the National Academy of Sciences report that found dental fluorosis – caused by too much fluoride – capable of putting children at risk of developing other dental problems including the breakdown of tooth enamel, discoloration and pitting. January’s EPA recommendation reversal was made following a revised risk assessment study that found 2 out of 5 adolescents had tooth streaking or spottiness and some pitting as a result of excessive fluoride. In addition, other studies have found excessive ingestion of fluoride capable of increasing the risk of brittle bones leading to fractures and debilitating bone abnormalities.

That’s a thought. Cayenne cures hemorrhoids. Eat it don’t pack it though.

I couldn’t agree more...

LOL! Was it a flow chart of your chain of command? Very creative! I may have to use that one...might get me a laugh in front of a crowd where I just might need it.

Of course, it might get me on a S*** List too...

The potential harmful effects of fluoride are a whole lot worse than a little dental fluorosis. Excessive fluoride can have the same effects as lead.

There is some thought that fluoride was pushed on the unsuspecting public as a means of getting rid of the fluoride that is produced as a by-product of aluminum smelting. That sounds a little preposterous, but then again....

“...the opposition was from the John Birch Society and Little Old Ladies in Tennis Shoes...

But as James Jackson Kilpatrick pointed out... the real conservative position was that individuals and their communities should decide what medicinal substances we put in our bodies and the intrusive Federal badgering was unnessary and and wrong. This case did not involve a viral epedemic that needed federal oversight.

Now will all the comedians apologize to the John Birch Society???

“It is like that in West Texas, too. Lot’s of folks have browned teeth because of it. “

WW ll was the first time large numbers of Americans ever saw a dentist. They noted people from Appalachia had rotten teeth and West Texans did not even have cavities, just brown streaks. That is how they discovered the relationship between fluoride and cavity prevention.

I grew up in North Texas and none of my extended family has any cavities, even up to age 77. Fortunately I left before my teeth stained but I would rather have a couple of brown streaks than look British. Or be like the old joke here in NC. What is a picture of 32 teeth? A family portrait. Takes 10 people to get a complete set of choppers.

There’s another one of those ideas of mine that turned out to be on the right track. I’ve been removing the fluoride from my drinking water for 2 years now and I haven’t used fluoridated toothpaste for almost 6.

For those interested in investigating an alternative to conventional fluoridated toothpaste and their grossly overpriced ‘natural’ equivalents, I invite you to make the following formula yourself (learned about it from Saveyourteeth.com, a site run by a DDS):

3 parts baking soda
1 part salt (sea salt if possible; go for the unrefined kind)

Pour a bit of the stuff in the palm of your hand and mix in just enough hydrogen peroxide so that you make a sort of ‘paste’. It won’t taste very good compared to conventional toothpaste, but it’s dirt cheap and does an amazing job.

I use this formula, along with a Waterpik, every day and my very pro-fluoride dentist has said on multiple occasions, I quote, “I don’t know what you’re doing, but keep it up!”

I still haven’t told him what I’m doing. Why spoil a good thing?

The only way to remove excess fluoride from the body is with ample amounts of pure grain alcohol...works for me.

I find it interesting how many FReepers absolutely hate the EPA, say they lie about most things, are incompetent, Global Warming, carbon trading, etc. etc. ALL BAD = EPA is all bad!!

But, they are right on this one?? You are absolutely sure that they are right on this and over 60 years of research by the American Dental Association is ALL WRONG!

There is a lot of crap in the water besides Fluoride. People in West Texas are still cavity free and have tough bones.

I don’t trust the EPA on anything. I suggest we wait and see who is going to make the most money out of this new pronouncement. Maybe Soros. 30% of clinical trials are contradicted by a different study within 1 month of the publication.

It has been determined that kids who drink bottled water have more cavities. Fluoride in your tooth paste is good, just don’t swallow it.

General Jack D. Ripper: Mandrake, do you realize that in addition to fluoridating water, why, there are studies underway to fluoridate salt, flour, fruit juices, soup, sugar, milk... ice cream. Ice cream, Mandrake, children’s ice cream.

Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: [very nervous] Lord, Jack.

General Jack D. Ripper: You know when fluoridation first began?

Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: I... no, no. I don’t, Jack.

General Jack D. Ripper: Nineteen hundred and forty-six. 1946, Mandrake. How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? It’s incredibly obvious, isn’t it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That’s the way your hard-core Commie works.

Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Uh, Jack, Jack, listen... tell me, tell me, Jack. When did you first... become... well, develop this theory?

General Jack D. Ripper: [somewhat embarassed] Well, I, uh... I... I... first became aware of it, Mandrake, during the physical act of love.

Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Hmm.

General Jack D. Ripper: Yes, a uh, a profound sense of fatigue... a feeling of emptiness followed. Luckily I... I was able to interpret these feelings correctly. Loss of essence.

Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Hmm.

General Jack D. Ripper: I can assure you it has not recurred, Mandrake. Women uh... women sense my power and they seek the life essence. I, uh... I do not avoid women, Mandrake.

Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: No.

General Jack D. Ripper: But I... I do deny them my essence.

Talk to your dentist about doing the old swish-and-spit-out with hydrogen peroxide.

Cheers!

The attacks of those who had concerns over floride were just as vicous as the present attacks of those who doubt global warming.

Cayenne cures any condition that is caused by either bleeding, or inadequate circulation. Kind of paradoxical in a way.

Yes, my bad. Colgate Total uses triclosan, which is the same antimicrobial compound found in many liquid antibacterial hand/dish soaps. This stuff acts more like an antibiotic than like a disinfectant.
