COLORADO SPRINGS - The security guard who saved lives by shooting a gunman at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs has apparently been asked to leave.
In December 2007, Jeanne Assam - working as a volunteer security guard - shot Matthew Murray after he killed two people outside the church. He killed two others the night before at a training center for Christian missionaries in Arvada.
Assam was honored for her quick action. Murray likely wouldve killed more people at the church if she had not shot him repeatedly then pinned him down.
Assam says last year when she told church leaders she is gay, she was asked to leave the church.
New Life pastor Brady Boyd told the Colorado Springs Gazette the report is untrue. "We would never tell someone to leave because of their sexual orientation," Boyd says. "Jeanne will always be a hero at New Life."
Assam gave a speech on Saturday, February 19 at the Pride Centers annual masquerade ball, a fundraiser for the gay community in Colorado Springs.
The Gazette reports she spoke of the pressures society places on gay people.
New Life Church was in the national spotlight in 2006 when Pastor Ted Haggard left after admitting he had had a relationship with a male escort in Denver.
You know, you keep accusing me of "twisting" your words -- but I have to say: it's rare outside of politics to see such a twisted way of saying that you think she's lying.
1. You don't know if she's lying.
2. But you know she has lied in the past
3. And Boyd says she's lying.
4. And you take Boyd's word for it that she's lying.
5. But you're not saying she's lying.
You should be ashamed of yourself.
What religion are you, specifically?
Jewish? Protestant? Atheist? Troll?
Or perhaps you're just a simple hypocrite?
No, I said “I don’t know” (as in factual knowing), for all I know Brady is lying. But in the case of believing, I believe that he is telling the truth. Just like you think she is telling at least part of the truth. But I never twisted your words. You have taken what I said out of context and twisted it repeatedly. All I did is say she has perjured herself in the past and you say I am throwing stones. I guess I should not report facts in moral issues in order the escape the charge that I am casting stones if that is your standard. I have a lot to be ashame of, but not in this matter. All I did is answer your question, get over it.
tithing - giving 10%. And that is the starting point.
Money, time, resources. We could all do better.
Troll? Yep, I’m learning alot from you also trisham.
I apologize for having said the offensive and heinous things I have - SUPPORT YOUR CHURCH - TITHE.
or not, your call. It is my humble opinion this is important. Your mileage may vary.
Give and give with a glad heart. or not.
This is, again, a logical fallacy because it presumes that I have not read the book of Galations. That would be an error. As I clearly responded to you earlier, "Galatians is talking about relying on works of the flesh (including the law) for salvation. It is not, IMO, teaching that the law is bad for you and has been abolished."
Again, the question for Timothy's circumcision (a requirement of the law) was whether it would help spread the gospel, not whether it was necessary for salvation. To throw out tithing because it was a requirement of the law and is not specifically required in the NT when it helps spread the gospel is getting on the wrong side of the Scriptures. This would have meant that Paul would not circumcise either Timothy or Titus. Yet Paul did circumcise Timothy. Obviously Paul could distinguish the two correctly.
"Romans 14 deals with this and if someone not bound by the law chooses to follow it they are not sinning. Paul just calls them weaker Christians."
Romans 14 also says "Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind." and "if anyone regards something as unclean, then for that person it is unclean." If a brother believes that not tithing is a sin, then it is a sin for him. If you think you are the stronger Christian and do not need to tithe, then why do you quarrel with what you consider the weaker Christian over disputable matters? Are you not on the wrong side of Scripture yet again?
"Spreading the Gospel has nothing to do with this issue. Whether or not one chooses to tithe has nothing to do with their effectiveness in spreading the Gospel."
Spreading the gospel has everything to do with this issue. The brother who is compelled to submit to the OT requirement of tithing is helping spread the gospel in the same manner that Timothy was convinced to submit to the OT requirement of circumcision to help spread the gospel.
Where does He say to tithe 10%, sacrifice rams and obey all dietary laws? Never. The Temple veil was torn in two. Why? Christ fulfilled the law. Judaism was dead. The Ten Commandments were not. We are not to be gluttons, liars, immoral, drunks.....THOSE are the laws still in place. Tithing to a now dead/unneeded priesthood, dietary laws and sacrificing are dead. Grace replaced them.
If you disagree, check out commentaries on Matt 5:17. It doesn't mean what you think it does.
You have a nice day.
My group of believers know that WE are the church and those in need must be supported. Not a building.
You obviously have little reading comprehension or critical thinking ability.
IF there is a set of rules, and a leader siad that he was not there to eliminate those rules, then it logically follows that the rules still apply.
You may tithe and support your church or not. You may choose to place the value of your money over Gods work. You may do all these. I only say you are wrong to do so.
Get on with it then.
Exactly, SUPPORT it, the church, the people, that it/they can do Gods work. The money all belongs to Him anyway. Give! Tithe!
But in the case of believing, I believe that he is telling the truth.
And Boyd says she is lying. Meaning, therefore, that you believe that Jeanne Assam is lying. This is simple logic.
And yet you cannot just say so. Why is it so hard for you simply to admit that you think she's lying? What are you afraid of?
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that you, a member of the very church in question, know that there's more to the story, and aren't saying what it is.
You condemn others for jumping to conclusions (the post demanding proof of her lying) and yet you jump right in with your accusations. When I answer with proof, you accuse me of throwing stones. Why do you care so much if she lied or not? Why are you defending her? Does not NLC have the right to enforce it's standards of morality in church leadership? You doubt Boyd's word even though you have no proof. I doubt her word and I gave you proof.
Dude, you I nailed you and your pride can't let go, admit it, I gave you proof and you started ripping on me.
I will just close by noting that you have called Ms. Assam a liar in various ways, and yet refuse to admit that you have done so.
And that tells me all I need to know about you.
My religion is not something that I conceal. Is yours?
(yawn)
I sure you are dizzy, I kept up with your name calling, twisting of words and all the rest. You’re probably not use to someone calling you on your BS.
Perhaps it is picking nits, but ‘religion’ is another man-made thing. I have a personal relationship with the Savior. I attend a Baptist church. We use the King James Bible. We meet 3 times a week.
What any of that has to do with whether or not one should tithe is beyond me. I do not love my money, it is but a tool, just like a hammer. This particular tool helps get missionaries out, helps pay elderly heating bills, helps clothe needier children in the winter. The list goes on.
None of that happens without the congregation giving out of what God has provided for them. None. What you do for the least of these, you do for jesus. Give, tithe, gladly.
That's a false characterization of what I have said.
As well as defending her while quoting Biblical versus to anyone who disagrees.
.... Huh. This, from the fellow who demanded the Scriptural reference to what I had said....
I don't call everybody a liar ... but I have to say that you're doing a pretty good job of earning the label. You wanna back off a little, pal?
huh?
