The Republican majority of the Wisconsin State Senate has at hand the tools to end its stalemate now.
The Wisconsin Constitution requires that to vote on a law dealing with taxing or spending or borrowing, a "quorum" is needed, and the minimum number to constitute a "quorum" is sixty percent of the elected members of the legislature:
ARTICLE VIII FINANCE
Vote on fiscal bills; quorum. SECTION 8. On the passage in either house of the legislature of any law which imposes, continues or renews a tax, or creates a debt or charge, or makes, continues or renews an appropriation of public or trust money, or releases, discharges or commutes a claim or demand of the state, the question shall be taken by yeas and nays, which shall be duly entered on the journal; and three-fifths of all the members elected to such house shall in all such cases be required to constitute a quorum therein.
A "money-related" quorum in the current legislative session is 20 (19.8) senators of the 33 senators elected. The current party breakdown in the Wisconsin Senate is 19 Republicans and 14 Democrats. Each one of the 14 Democratic senators has refused to appear in the Senate chamber in Madison, leaving 19 Republicans alone at their desks and, seemingly, unable to have a vote until at least one Democrat shows up for work.

rofl, it be funny if the 19 gop can pull that off. 19 gop go to where a dem is hiding out and then create a quorum right there. If I was a gop senator, I would support such an idea, it be fun :)
I’m curious about the second comment under the article. It references the Illinois Senate’s use of subs to replace absent Congressmen to pass their huge tax hike. I’m not sure what the commenter is saying. Did Illinois Republicans run and hide like the WI Democrats?
To be more honest it should read:
[It is widely believed that those lying low-life legislators have gone so far as to leave Wisconsin entirely, hiding out in a hotel in Illinois.]
Well they have been in Contact with some of these Idiots who have Taken Off on the Phone already about their Pay I believe,so that in effect shows these people have shown they can communicate . All the Republicans need are the Balls to do what the Democrats would surely do and say we are Voting and Since the Constitution says it does not matter where you are as Long as you have a Phone, you can Vote and it is your duty to Represent the People who elected you,so DO IT!
The Wisconsin Constitution explicitly states that the legislature must gather in Wisconsin. That's one reason why the Dems fled to Illinois.
Instead, play hardball. No budget means no funds can be disbursed. No state subsidies to schools, which means school layoffs. No state public employee pension payments. No paychecks for state employees. No welfare checks. Shut it all down until the Rats return.
They lost at the ballot box and are injecting mob rule, pretending that we have some obligation to negotiate with the mobs.
We dont!
The Guv should make the point that plainly.
Whomever that poster is, is wrong. The RATS have an overwhelming Majority in Both IL Houses to basically pass anything. It's only fear of losing their phony baloney jobs that keeps them in check.
So no IL Republicans went and hid, or used substitutes. That HUGH tax hike we're stuck in IL with passed (cough) 'legally'.
I don’t understand why someone can vote by phone and not be there but we can’t count them as being there to vote this bill thru. If they have access to a phone, then they’re there
Yep. As series as the Sun rises in the East and the sky is blue. In case you haven't seen your paycheck yet the higher State Tax is already being taken out.
And when you do your State Income Taxes get ready for another hit thanks to the RATS in Springfield and that ijit Quinn:
An Automatic Internet Sales Tax will-may be added besides to what you owe on Income. You will have two options. Add up everything you bought on-line in 2010 from out of state and pay IL Sales Tax on that amount. OR - they automatically and arbitrarily decide 'how much you bought' on the Internet. They assume that EVERYONE buys things on-line and 'Out Of State' now, and are cheating them out of their money. It can be as much as $100.00 extra in taxes.
A FReeper on the IL Board posted this Internet Tax goody a couple weeks ago.
this sounds like a job for Dog the Bounty Hunter...
Walker and the Republicans cannot consider this strategy until David Prossor is re-elected in April as state supreme court judge to maintain the 4-3 conservative advantage. As everyone knows, the election of a liberal will void any law that is particularly vulnerable to re-interpretation.
There is no stalemate. There is loss. The unions have lost.
Those who lust for instant gratification miss the point. What appears to be a battle and stalemate is actually a lost cause. Charging the machine guns and cannons appears to be action but there are only union deaths piled up.
The charge of the Light Brigade was exciting but it accomplished nothing except death
But tax unions and union income at a diffrent higher rate then Non-Union Workers ...
The whole argument of the left is the better off should pay more, that people that make or get more of the "profit" should pay more ...
The whole argument of the Unions is they are better off then Non-Union Workers, that the Unions help you make more and get more of the "profit" for the Union worker
So take the Unions at their word... Union worker are better off... they make more
Take the Left at their word the better off that make more should pay more in taxes....
So Tax Unions, Union Pay and Union befits at a different and higher rate... make them pay their fair share
