Fox News should fire Glenn Beck; Speaker Boehner should denounce the birthers
By Brent Budowsky - 02/25/11 09:48 AM ET
Fox News should fire Glenn Beck because there are some "opinions" that should not be given prominence on a network that purports to be a serious news station. Beck has the right to express his opinions, but a publicly traded company that presumes to be a credible news network should not be aiding and abetting the spreading of hate using its shareholders' money on the public airwaves.
Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) should denounce the birthers clearly, unequivocally, immediately and unconditionally and should state, without qualification, that President Obama is a Christian and an American. A leader of one of our two great parties, and the leader of the whole House of Representatives, which is the true role of the Speaker, should not give one ounce of credence to the politics of lies and hate, or leave one inch of doubt that he condemns the politics of lies and hate.
There is weakness in the Democratic Party, for sure, but there is a cancer that is spreading in the Republican Party. The GOP should not allow Glenn Beck to be one of its loudest voices, and should denounce his hate. The Speaker should not treat the purveyors of hate as a valued part of his constituency, or a faction he is too fearful and timid to publicly and clearly condemn.
The president does not say he is a Christian. He is a Christian. The president does not say he is an American. He is an American.
What is happening in American politics is the cheapening of our dialogue and dishonoring of our democracy that combines the worst of the trivial pursuits of what is called cable news with the most extreme voices from talk radio and the Internet, and adding a partisan hunger for power that is extreme and dominates every other consideration in our political and media nation.
Personally, I am fed up with Republicans who preach or tolerate the politics of hate, fed up with Democrats who seem to have no higher values they will champion with conviction, fed up with cable news that treats politics like a forum for hate or a freak show with the latest babble about Sarah Palin and Donald Trump and the idiot nonsense that insider Democrats and Republicans who are out of touch with America tell each other at their insider lunches.
What they all have in common is that they disrespect their audience for their higher purpose of gaining power, making money, peddling the latest insider pittypatter without any serious discussion about the one-fifth of the nation that is jobless, the deadly crisis of the tens of millions who are hungry or the continuing cascade of those who are foreclosed upon and homeless.
I am going to have a lot more to say about cable news and the culture it breeds, and I will not spare Democrats or liberals. There are tens of millions of Americans who do not watch cable news because their voice is not respected, and the battle is only beginning for their hearts, minds and eyeballs.
For now, it is time for Fox News to fire Glenn Beck and time for Speaker Boehner to denounce the birthers, or Fox News will forfeit its right to be treated as a serious news network, and Speaker Boehner will forfeit his stature as a national leader for being too afraid to say publicly what he surely believes in the privacy of his conscience.
There's always America's Next Top Model... or Dancing with the Tards.
WOW! Do I like your style.
There are more important and critical issues that need fixing NOW!
Spending, unconstitutional laws, unelected lawmakers, Unions neutralizing elected officials...
“Brent Butoutsky?
Brent Buttwartsky?
Is that because you don't believe what he is saying?
Perhaps you could cheer me up by providing a picture of the U.S. over the next five years.
Could you provide what you think will be the range of the following indicators?
The Dow Jones and the S&P 500.
Home mortgage interest rates.
Inflation.
National and state indebtedness, including future "entitlements" like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and Obamacare.
Gold and silver.
Unemployment rates.
Tax rates for the U.S. and the fifty states.
The price of oil, corn, wheat, rice, and real estate.
I'd be curious to hear how the U.S. will be getting out of the tremendous hole we are in.
Beck's an anti birther anyway, isn't he?
That's what I've read about him, right here at F.R.
Unless any 'originals' found are made available for forensic authentication, it's a worthlest desperate last gasp.
I know my face turned red when I read it twice.
I know my face turned red when I read it twice.
Boehner should do this immediately right after the ONE comes clean and releases ALL documents relating to his life and birth...until then we have doubts
Why! Here’s a comment from Brent Butthead;
“I would challenge every single Republican here, and
every righist here, to say Obama is an American!! And
Obama is a Christian!!! Disagree with him all you
want on issues, but I challenge you, I dare you, to
say clearly that the president of the United States is
an American and a Christian without the waffling and
wiggling that should shame anyone who will not say it clearly.

I always enjoy hearing from the republican ruling elites, thanks for reminding me why I dislike them so very much. If you do not understand the NBC issue you shouldn’t be posting on any forum much less this one.
AFTER-BIRTHERS should learn to let the grownups deal with the important issues.
So what? My best friend is every bit of an American as I am: He is an American citizen, a registered Republican, votes in every election, flies the American flag, served in the USMC, pays taxes, loves football, hates soccer, drives a SUV, owns a .45 ACP, etc., etc. Being "an American," however, does not, by itself, qualify a person to serve as president under the Constitution. My friend is an American, but he was born in Ireland to Irish parents, and as a result he is not a natural born citizen and therefore, he is unqualified to serve as POTUS.
Obama may very well be an American, but that doesn't mean he meets the Constitutional qualifications to serve as President. Obama could end the controversy with one telephone call. The fact that he hasn't could lead a reasonable person to conclude that perhaps his consitutional qualifications are less than perfect.
LOL - Nah, we’d rather hear the Dali Bama say it himself. It’s always good for a laugh. Warm the ol’ teleprompter up Brent.
Where’s the barf alert?
If you hadn't mentioned it, it would not be an issue. I certainly don't care what you watch.
What about you go peddle that crap to some first grader that hasn’t quite seen all this transpire with your FAVORITE PEOPLE. Republicans didn’t give birth to this crap. The half-wit minorities and in-your-face college anarchists who elected this unqualified, illegal alien, half-wit to the highest office in this land created it, and morons like you give verification of the fact that stupidity reigns supreme in this country. That, and a runaway lack of real gonads. KNOW WHAT THOSE ARE, ALICE?

The problem with us, mr buttoutski, is that we don’t just believe things even if told to by the likes of Mr. Boehner. We question authority.
Maybe if you stand on your head?
