In the past few weeks Glenn Beck has spoken about the coming caliphate that he believes is about to envelope most of the world. He then dilated on the anti-Christ with a man who says he has new prophetic understanding into the end times. In 2009, this self-proclaimed prophet wrote a column titled What Obama and the Anti-Christ Have in Common. Then, on a recent show, the discussion focused on the coming Islamic anti-Christ. And earlier this week, an irate, bellicose Beck spoke about the perfect storm America faces. I cant honestly believe were finally here, he said in praising his own prescience. In his version of events, Beck is the solitary Voice of Truth willing to expose the New World Order (complete with references to Van Jones and Code Pink).
SNIP
All this is quite troublesome in its own right. But what ought to worry conservatives in particular is that Beck not only has the unusual capacity to discredit virtually every cause he takes up; he also confirms the worst caricatures of the right. What was true before is doubly true today. It looks to me like its only a matter of time and I suspect not much time until he blows apart professionally. If and when that happens, one can only hope that conservatism as a movement will have created enough distance from Beck to mitigate the damage.

Strange.
The only significant difference in the several political parties is simply who gets to be in charge of the money and the people....
Has been the same equation since man first populated the earth and fell from grace as a race.
Best;
He's not as unappealing as Michael Savage. He appears to be filling a niche, on the "stridency scale," between Rush and Savage. "The Deep End" commences just to this side of Savage. Beck is not quite there, at least most days.
The moderators of FR tend to keep it in an orbit that's just around the "Rush zone," with occasional asteroids, comets, and errant moons allowed if they don't endanger the home planet.
“In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” Eric Arthur Blair (George Orwell)
The most flak is when over target. The more ad hominem they get, the more they’re telegraphing that they can’t counter his arguments or answer his questions.
The utopian world of the Demolition man movie comes to mind.
“Be well”.
I do have to give him credit for finally changing his theme song to something that doesn't make me cringe.
I may be one of those that would like to see Conservatives put some distance between themselves and Beck. Sometimes I think he is a few bricks short of a full load. His style reminds me of a soft spoken Jimmy Swagart and that is disturbing. I quit watching him sometime ago as he made me feel like I was in Church hearing a sermon that I couldn’t believe in.
Why Republicans Like Obama
By Peter Wehner
Sunday, February 3, 2008
Barack Obama is not only popular among Democrats, he’s also an appealing figure to many Republicans. Former GOP House member Joe Scarborough, now a host on MSNBC, reports that after every important Obama speech, he is inundated with e-mails praising the speech — with most of them coming from Republicans. William Bennett, an influential conservative intellectual, has said favorable things about Obama. So have Rich Lowry of National Review and Peggy Noonan. And so have I.
A number of prominent Republicans I know, who would wage a pitched battle against Hillary Clinton, like Obama and would find it hard to generate much enthusiasm in opposing him.
What is at the core of Obama’s appeal?
Part of it is the eloquence and uplift of his speeches, combined with his personal grace and dignity. By all accounts, Obama is a well-grounded, decent, thoughtful man. He comes across, in his person and manner, as nonpartisan. He has an unsurpassed ability to (seemingly) transcend politics. Even when he disagrees with people, he doesn’t seem disagreeable. “You know what charm is,” Albert Camus wrote in “The Fall,” “a way of getting the answer yes without having asked any clear question.” Obama has such charm, and its appeal is not restricted to Democrats.
No doubt Beck is intense and driven. But, only a fool would totally disregard his warnings on the establishment of a worldwide Caliphate. There has to be a war between the branches of Islam before a purity driven sect can establish anything approaching worldwide domination. And by then half of the human population will have been killed off, whole swaths of land will become glowing masses of glass slag, and mankind will be back to the dark ages. Giant ants and grasshoppers will rule the world!
Although I like Glenn Beck, I'll say that some of his shows make it difficult to draw the line between entertainment and information.
This particular show was not one of those. It was deadly serious and highly informative. In view of how radical Islam has advanced thus far in this century, it also made perfect sense. I am now re-reading both the book of Revelation and the Koran. It is time that those pooh-poohing Beck did the same.
The writer doesn't address Beck's facts, he speaks only of his emotional impact he'll have on his pliable jelly audience. Goofy fluff of an article.
These Beck snippets all lack context (as snippets are designed to do) so I have no way of judging Beck's individual points.
I don't personally watch Beck much. I'm at work, for one thing. But when I do watch, he's a bit overly emotional and preacherly for my tastes. But his content is important. And none of these poo-pooers ever address his content.
The Marxist left is aligned with fundamentalist Islam because their common enemy is the Great Satan. Capitalist and non-islamic, they both want it destroyed.
Both the Marxist left and the fundamentalist Islamics think they are using the other group as a tool to achieve their own ends. One of them, at least, is wrong. Hopefully both.
Thanks for the background reference.
I noticed Fox did not re-air his show last night at 2:00am timeslot.
Now that makes sense, but would love to know what he said?
Beck is assuming the role of Kevin McCarthy in warning against the pod people. I hope he’s wrong but I suspect that he’s right.
Looks like conservatives are balkanizing. And that “ain’t” good. Abe was right, we will fall from within.
Evidently Mad Magazine is still in business I see.
