How to handle the 'birther' question
WND ^ | February 24, 2011 | Joseph Farah

Posted on 02/24/2011 6:12:37 AM PST by RobinMasters

Since the Big Media seem determined to grill Republicans about Barack Obama's "eligibility gap" rather than the man whose actions prompted widespread public doubt about his qualifications for office, maybe it's time for a lesson on how to handle those questions – especially for those who aren't familiar with the issues and simply don't know what they are talking about.

Here are some recent examples of political missteps:

Sarah Palin: Asked if she questioned Obama's faith and citizenship, she replied: "I don't, and those are distractions. What we're concerned about is the economy. And we're concerned about the policies coming out of his administration and what he believes in terms of big government or private sector. So, no, the faith, the birth certificate, others can engage in that kind of conversation. It's distracting. It gets annoying, and let's just stick with what really matters."

Distractions? Are the Constitution's requirements "distractions"? Are Republicans only concerned about the economy? "What really matters"?

Karl Rove: "We need the leaders of our party to say, 'Look, stop falling into the trap of the White House and focus on the real issues.'"

I'm trying to think of which leaders of the Republican Party have made eligibility an issue. Almost no one in the entire Washington political establishment has the courage to say the emperor has no clothes – or at least no birth certificate. This is a serious problem for Obama at the grass roots, the polls show. Does Rover think Obama is so smart and so Machiavellian that he has laid this elaborate trap that involves losing the confidence of at least 58 percent of Americans on the most basic matters of fact? That's the wildest conspiracy theory I ever heard.

Smirk if you want at World Net Daily (I often do), but they are the only ones on the the right side of conservatism that is paying attention to this fundamental issue.

Palin, Rove, O’Reilly et al just don’t get it. Why are the percentages of birthers increasing from 25 % last year to over 50% now and still increasing?

A “distraction”? Does Palin really believe the lies that the Obama camp spews out regarding his birth?

Palin is right on this one.

She should speak out against Obama’s actions on DADA and DOMA which are real issues.

A WND reader today ~ specifically 2nd post from Darin ~[in ‘E-Mail to the Editor’] responded best in response to a separate email yesterday (from a less-educated Mr. Garman).

Basically saying ‘who would you buy a car w/ an electronic copy of it’s title? Would the DMV accept that as a reasonable facsimile?’ So why expect less fact-checking for the highest office in the land?!

Obama’s original long form BC was sealed when the Soetoro adoption was finalized. It is of no legal value because its invalidated.

Anyone interested in exposing Obama should look at his Form 5, Application for Social Security Number. His Connecticut based number was derived from an American Refugee Organization HQ’ed in Connecticut.

Obama went to Indonesian as an American born in Honolulu, HI and returned to America as an Indonesian Refugee with his grandmother named as his custodial guardian.

I think the best reply is the simplest:

“Why are you asking me? I’m a politician. You are an investigative reporter, with a huge organization at your beck and call devoted to running down stories. Are you telling me that you can’t find out anything concrete on this guy beyond what he wrote in his two autobiographies? What are you afraid of finding?”

If you know who he isn't, it's irrelevant to know who he is.

If we are going to eat this beast we have to take one bite at a time unless we want to choke and have to start over. Not every one is going to chew on the same piece.
Perhaps some are a bit too fixated on a battle they aren’t likely to win. Calling out political leaders for not pushing their pet agenda is a bit unnecessary.
It would of course been politically more beneficial to the birthers to have heard the politicians say that it is an important Constitutional issue with responsibilities that fall squarely on the shoulders of the Courts and Legislators. The facts are that neither the Courts or Legislators are taking that responsibility seriously nor did they before the election. Working toward removing those politicians and “judges” who failed in their duties from office should be paramount.
It is far more expedient for politicians with limited time to move their own agenda without sympathy to others. They must often focus on what is happening and take positions that will resonate with a broader base rather than get them pigeon holed, at the expense of purity.

I think Farah has written a good response that I’d like to see high profile Republicans give when questioned about this issue.

My own answer is somewhat simpler, because nobody cares about what I think. I simply don’t know whether Obama is eligible or not, for the same reason that I don’t know whether Reagan, Kennedy or Abraham Lincoln were eligible: I have not seen the official documentary evidence. Until this jackass came along, there was little reason to question eligibility, and I certainly never gave it a thought. I used to be naive enough to believe that all the appropriate lower-case letters had been dotted and crossed. I also believe that, had Reagan, Kennedy or Lincoln been questioned about their birth documents, they would have immediately produced the required paperwork without a second thought.

I used to think that Presidents loved their country and were honorable and forthright about their own citizenship. I don’t have that feeling about this one, and it’s because of his actions and that of the media, which has been almost criminally-neglect in refusing to their job in ferreting out the facts.

Palin should have mentioned the FBI and the job they have to protect America? Why would the FBI allow someone with any question on birth to be president? Wouldn’t that be a crime and isn’t that what they get paid to do? Protect citizens? You would think any agency having information on that subject would step up. They vet everyone working in or near the whitehouse according to books written by former FBI agents. Why wouldn’t they do the same for the main man?
It would be incompetent not to do so.

He is just an all around dishonest fraud. He probably doesn’t even know the truth anymore.

This is what we need to push home to America. I believe the majority of voters do care about integrity, truthfulness, and honor.

The BC, Social Security, Rev. Wright, excessive Golfing and Partying, excessive and expensive vacations and meals, “I won, you lost”, UNION love affair, and other character flaws can be used to make this the most lopsided election in history.

Hopefully, is flaming downfall will have broad coat tails and will take many more Democrats, Socialist, and RINOs with him.

Nobody gives elected officials a security clearance. The election IS the security clearance. It is the voters who have the solemn duty to check out whether the person is trustworthy. In the case of Obama, if America was stupid enough to trust somebody who wouldn’t even let us know his name, we deserve what we got.

The Founders knew that a clueless public was the biggest danger this country would ever face. That’s why freedom of speech was so critical. At this point I believe that America’s biggest enemy is the press, and if we don’t get our rules of engagement clear that we need to destroy the enemy, they will destroy us first.

Those who are cozy with the presstitutes don’t want the treasonous press revealed for what it is, but for those who would save the nation, they need to know that it can’t happen without first eviscerating the press as it exists today. To try to ride that tiger so you can get into office, and then keep riding that tiger so you can stay in office.... is the height of stupidity. If there’s a tiger that’s prowling about in search of eating America as its prey the only America-loving thing to do is slay that tiger, and in this context that means totally wiping out the misplaced trust that the American lemmings have in a criminally negligent press.

The politicians are poo-poohing this issue because they think they need to ride the tiger that’s planning on controlling them through fear the whole time they’re in office anyway. That is kicking the can farther down the road at this point. None of the important work to save this country can get done when there’s this degree of complicit corruption among government, law enforcement, courts, and media.

We desperately NEED the entire public to realize the situation we’re in.

Good reply. The only thing that I'd add would be to reference the laws developing in ten states to define the documentation required to prove standing to run for POTUS (and define appropriate ways to challenge) which will put an end to this issue prospectively. IMHO, at this point, making it a solely a 2012 issue is the effective strategy.

These “investigative reporters” don’t investigate. They’d answer that “Why are you asking me?” question WITH a question. Probably something like *I know B0 is eligible so I’m asking YOU what You think*. And the whole conversation turns into a “I asked you first” situation.

Yeah, the so-called reporters ask questions just not the RIGHT questions of the Right people. They had a chance to vet B0 before the election and chose not to do it. Can’t be called a racist, don’cha know.
