The politician who once best exemplified the idea of a "maverick" independent has shifted so far to the right that he is now tied for the title of the Senate's most conservative member, according to National Journal's 2010 vote ratings.
According to a comprehensive examination of 96 Senate votes taken in 2010, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., along with seven of his colleagues, voted most often on the conservative side. His 89.7 composite conservative score ties him with stalwarts like Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., and gives him a more conservative score than Sens. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., and Jeff Sessions, R-Ala.

Though McCain's latest NJ ranking is a stark contrast with his past record, the senator's spokeswoman, Brooke Buchanan, said his ideology has not changed. "But I can assure you," she added, "the legislative agenda in the Senate sure has."

If they wanted to fool voters into believing someone was a conservative that wasn’t they should have picked someone more believable than McCain... like Bernie Sanders
Oh for God's sake: he was up for RE-ELECTION in 2010.
The National Journal has its head up its @$$.
His 89.7 composite conservative score ties him with stalwarts like Sen. Jim DeMint
Any comparison like this between McCain and DeMint overlooks one thing: there isn't any comparison between McCain and DeMint.
Want on or off this ping list? Just FReepmail me.

Do you think the AUTHOR even believes this?
This writer needs to put down the crack pipe.
John McCain being the most COMMUNIST Senator....I can believe that....the most Conservative....LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
Next, the idiot author will claim Barack Obama was born in Hawaii
Are you still glad Obama won? Wouldn’t want to have a conservative McCain leading the nation, would we? Then, you little whining RINOs wouldn’t have anything to complain about.
ROTFLMAO!
If he was president, he would be conservative.
What is the ‘f’ doing in that word?
"Still"?
I was *never* glad that Obama won, but that means nothing to you GOP hacks who feel entitled to my votes and my support.
Wouldnt want to have a conservative McCain leading the nation, would we?
Since when is the amnesty-pushing, free-speech-squelching, bailout-loving, lying two-bit treasonous bastard McCain a "conservative"?
Put down the bong, sarabaracuda, and step back for a bit.
Then, you little whining RINOs wouldnt have anything to complain about.
In order for me to be a "RINO," I would have to be a Republican.
I'm not a Republican. I left the party years ago after Bush II turned it into a neo-con, globalist, statist mockery.
And I'm not going back any time soon.
Pray tell, what sort of drugs are you on that would cause you to think that McCain's election as president would somehow cause him to change his leftist, anti-American ways and become a conservative?
Positively breathtaking...

Looks like any other fine Conservative to me. /s
I am still glad McCain's not president. That was easy. Obama doesnt make me think McCain would have done anything good.
One Soros handmaiden or the other, what a wonderful choice.
What the confused don’t comprehend is that if McCain had been (were now) president, the House would never have turned Republican. And while McCain proves “Republican” is no guarantee of sound policy support, it’s still far better to have the Republicans in the majority in the House.
McCain doesn’t go to the White House to compliment Obama for nothing folks. The man actually agrees with Obama on more than any of you (not you SickOfLibs) care to admit.
Amazing that this McCain nonsense still comes up here. When certain Palinistas talk up McCain it tells you what their standards are.
With McCain, there is no ambiguity. The guy’s whole life is on the record. And that record is disgusting.
What is troubling most here, is that we consider ourselves to be well-grounded well-informed Conservatives. And even here, there are people who actually promote John McCain, as a Conservative.
If people here, who read so many Conservative issues, and are exposed to as much light as they could be exposed to, can’t grasp these matters, it is very demoralizing to contemplate what the overall grasp of Conservatism is by Republicans at large.
There really needs to be a Conservatism 101 or something. I know it’s hard to pin down Conservatism completely, but some of these folks don’t have the slightest clue what Conservatism is.
