The politician who once best exemplified the idea of a "maverick" independent has shifted so far to the right that he is now tied for the title of the Senate's most conservative member, according to National Journal's 2010 vote ratings.
According to a comprehensive examination of 96 Senate votes taken in 2010, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., along with seven of his colleagues, voted most often on the conservative side. His 89.7 composite conservative score ties him with stalwarts like Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., and gives him a more conservative score than Sens. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., and Jeff Sessions, R-Ala.

Though McCain's latest NJ ranking is a stark contrast with his past record, the senator's spokeswoman, Brooke Buchanan, said his ideology has not changed. "But I can assure you," she added, "the legislative agenda in the Senate sure has."

Drugs have wasted many minds.
The Leftist media would love a re-run of BO and the pitiful, decrepit McCain, the only “Republican” BO is sure to beat in ‘12.
If he were a Conservative, there would be no “shift”.
” McCain’s Shift “
Spel-Chek is NOT your friend....
Actually, if he were a Conservative, he’d be President.
Well, of course Juan voted conservative during 2010 when he had to hoodwink the Arizona voters one more time. Just watch him for the next five or six years and see how conservative he is.
He’s already cozying up to Obama and talking about comprehensive immigration reform.
No mention of any specific votes that allowed McCain to receive a higher ranking than Sessions or DeMint.
Mr. Wilson, you really need to put the bong down and step back.
Yesterday my son asked me if John McCain was a Republican.
I said “Not really”.
Where’s that “Not Again” picture?
LOL So true. McCain has never been a maverick; rather he has been a loose cannon.
“””For the 2010 ratings, National Journal examined all of the roll-call votes in Congress last year664 in the House and 299 in the Senateand identified the ones that show ideological distinctions between members. Many votes did not make the cutthose that involve noncontroversial issues or that fall along regional lines, for instance. Just under 100 votes in each chamber were selected and were categorized as economic, foreign, or social.”””
A couple of reasons for this anomaly regarding McCain’s new-found conservativeness.
1. Only 100 votes made the cut.
2. There were a lot of “party-line” votes in 2010.
Now that the Senate is a 50/50 organization, I believe we can expect to see Juan McCain seeking across the aisle to suck up one of the Democrats.
Like nothing has changed. He views statesmanship as compromise, especially involving fundamental principles. A discipline learned well at the Hanoi Hilton.
Voting records are a scam that both sides use to BS their supporters.
It works like this.
I’ll do the math for a lefty that wants a 100% lefty raitings. Well half the votes or more are lefty anyways, so right then and there, you are at 50%. Of the other half( ish ), they are conservatish, but half of those are going to go through, so you vote against them, and this lefty congresscritter is now at 75% and hasn’t done anything. Not one ‘hard, heroic vote’.
So to with McLame.
Further, not all votes are the same.
Voting for a bill to name a Post Office after Ronald Reagan, counts as much as a nation killing spending bill.
It’s not the number of votes, which are gamed, it is the quality of votes.
Both Democrat and Republican lawmakers sit around and gin up votes....FOR EACH OTHER....so that they BOTH can have high ratings. It’s like letting school kids grade each others papers.
David Keene the balding, RINO loving, hack conservative is totally on board with this cover up of fake, lying, fraud RINO’s getting the CPAC Badge Of Good House Keeping Conservative Seal.
I believe it- it was an election year.
don’t believe it. Leopards don’t lose their spots.
Bingo !
