The US government is offering contracts to create software to manage "fake people" on social media sites and create the illusion of consensus on controversial issues. The contract calls for the development of "Persona Management Software" which would help the user create and manage a variety of distinct fake profiles online. The listing was discussed in recently leaked emails from the private security firm HBGary after an attack by internet activist last week.

This is so Orwellian, you cannot make it up. As much of a role that the internet played in getting Premier Hussein elected in the first place, I do not doubt this story in the least.

Who knows how many of these Obamazombies are lurking here at FR right now....time for some serious zotting.....

When a representative government lobbies its citizens, it pits itself against the people it allegedly represents. One can’t possibly do a good job representing those one is trying to persuade away from their position. “Altered or abolished...” comes to mind.

As if they aren’t controlling enough of the thinking of the sheeple with their blatant propaganda 24/7 on tv, in the movies, magazines, newspapers and in the schoolrooms....Geeeessh. Goebbels would be so pleased.

I don't think we should let this go.

Are our TAX DOLLARS being used to finance this?

If so, Mike Pence or one of the other terrific congresscritters need to be informed.

There was a story last week about the Chamber of Commerce using a security company that followed that game plan in order to neutralize critics.

Isn’t working out too well for any of them.

It’s good to know that there is a government job waiting for those slacker kids who spend all their time tweeting and posting on FaceBook.

And, here is a good description of what this program “computerizes”, at a potentially much lower cost-per-shill!

http://www.learn-usa.com/transformation_process/acf001.htm

I find it disturbing that the government has perused this line of action. I can see where this tool might be pretty useful in the hands of CIA psyops personnel involved in shaping opinions of people in other countries. But this would be a very dangerous tool turned inward. And our public is probably at least as stupid as anyone elses public - at least 50% of ours, anyway.

A supercomputer farm could probably do this undetectably with minimal guidance right now. 15 years from now, a decent sized installation might be able to support hundreds of “conversations” simultaneously and without supervision.

P.S. I am on a few boards right now, including this one, I think, where there is a person with a screen name of HAL9000. Hiding in plain sight :)?

Yes, I understand how you would be so certain of this.

Seems kind of silly to bother with software. Don’t they have enough zealots to do that kind of work?
