Wisconsin Republicans Step Up Pressure on Dems Who Fled State
Fox News ^ | February 20, 2011 | Staff

Wisconsin Republicans on Sunday upped the pressure on Democrats who fled to Illinois to return home and vote on an anti-union bill, with the governor calling them obstructionists and a GOP lawmaker threatening to convene without them.

Gov. Scott Walker said the 14 minority Democrats who left Madison on Thursday were failing to do their jobs by "hiding out" in another state. And Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald said his chamber would meet Tuesday to act on non-spending bills and confirm some of the governor's appointees even if the Democrats don't show up -- a scenario that should outrage their constituents.

Senate Democrats acknowledged that the 19 Republicans could pass any item that doesn't spend state money in their absence. The budget-repair bill they have been blocking requires a quorum of 20 senators to pass, while other measures require only a simple majority of the chamber's 33 members.

Nonetheless, Democrats said they were standing firm in their opposition to the budget-repair bill, which would take away the right of most public employees to collectively bargain for their benefits and working conditions. Hundreds of protesters filled the Capitol for a sixth straight day, noisily calling on Walker to drop the plan they consider an assault on workers' rights.

Protesters are pledging to remain in the Wisconsin Capitol while Senate Democrats are committed to staying out of state until a compromise can be found with Gov. Scott Walker on collective bargaining rights for public sector employees.

Snow that turned to freezing rain Sunday considerably reduced the protest activity in the capital

I think that the Wisconsin GOP should draft a bill that takes away collective bargaining rights from the unions and then pass that bill separate from the financial part of the budget-repair bill.

The only thing that I can think of is that as long as this thing goes on, the unions are spending some of their own money busing in and hoteling demonstrators. Every dollar they spend now is one dollar they won't have during the 2012 election cycle. So, it might be wise to let this drag on a bit longer and let them burn their $$$.

Also, the longer the budget-repair bill is delayed, the steeper the cuts (layoffs) need to be. If it involves layoffs to more unionized government employees then thats less money the unions can collect in union dues.

I agree. I would urge the Wisconsin legislature to draft as many pipe dream bills as they could come up with, so that the Democrats would be forced to return to block them, or concede their party’s total destruction in the state.

BTW, cutting spending would not be spending state funds. They could start defunding leftist tripe programs. Gotta love that prospect.

Those Wisconsin elected officials that have remained on their jobs to fullfill their duties as elected by the people should get to work and pass as much legislation as they can before the assclown return from hiding.
Now that is funny stuff....

simply post on the internet and pass a law. To any democrat Senator in Wisconsin.

When leaving the state of wisconsin and requested to return to complete the legislative process when called to vote. a senator has 48 hours to make it to vote. If the senator refuses to return,
1. their staff will be discahrged
2. offices will be cleaned out.
3. Special elections will be set
4. Interim senators will be appointed to special election
5. when the ex senator returns to collect personal belongings, the ame will be arrested and incarcerated in a State prison for 7 years.
6. the ex senators have forfeited all pensions and health insurance because they have committed a felony.

I believe this will get their attention

No, sorry. Budget bills, whether adding to or subtracting from them, require a quorum.

WI Senate Democrats who fled and are hiding out in another state, have acknowledged that,in their absence, the 19 Republicans could pass any item that doesn't spend state money .....They also admitted they ARE holding meetings at their super-secret hideout.

ANALYSIS There should be penalties applied to this illegal activity. They are compelled to act under specific state constitutional rules.

THE LAWS ARE SPECIFIC......all meetings of state and local governmental bodies shall be publicly held in places reasonably accessible to members of the public and shall be open to all citizens at all times unless otherwise expressly provided by law.

=====================================

ACTION NOW The citizenry should determine:

(1) whether tax-exempt monies (from bond referendums) are being used illegally by fleeing Dems to underwrite their activities. The IRS and the SEC frown on (a) illegal conversions of govt money, AND, (b) misrepresenting use of bond proceeds to investors.

(2) the FBI should be notified since the Dems fled across state lines.

IRS TOLL-FREE 1-800-829-0433----you may remain anonymous when reporting tax fraud.

As FReeper Grampa Dave insightfully posted: If the Rat Reps spend a dime of taxpayer money to escape their mandated tasks, they should be brought up on fraud charges.

“I have a question which I am sure will be answered, If the republicans can pass all these things people are suggesting with satans spawn on the run why could’nt they do all these things while they are there?”

1. They do not have to worry about the opposition using procedural rules to gum up the works. They will take up much less time with debate.

2. They may only need a majority of the senators present to pass the legislation. That would mean that the 10 most conservative senators could pass legislation, instead of a requirement to hold 18 Republicans together on an issue.

There is a rumor afoot of a recall effort.

Know anything about that or what WI law permits in that regard?
