I predict a set of tragic boating accidents.

Strangely, with all the Freepers’ personal firearms aboard. So sad.

I doubt it represents an immediate threat to Israel.

However, it sets a precedent and will allow future positioning of forces without drawing as much international attention.

The comparison would not be with advocating robbery but advocating ‘legalizing’ it. Which is stupid but not illegal.

The Suez Canal Treaty says they cannot descriminate on what ships pass through.

advocating ‘legalizing’ it.

Not exactly, it would be advocating that the government steal at the direction and in conspiracy with the advocate.

Problem its, the government is specifically limited by the Constitution, and may not seize any property without due process and compensation (if the property owner is law abiding). The government may not steal, and a public servant that advocates such theft is in violation of their oath to the Constitution and in conspiracy (a felony everywhere) with the socialist. Both are still criminals.

If the socialist just advocates theft (confiscation) among his own privately, he is still a criminal as conspiracy simply requires agreement, not the actual act of theft, and is always a felony.

Good news on main board. Iran not going with 2 ships after all.

War in the Middle East is rapidly approaching

Did Afghanistan and Iraq move out of the Middle East? I must've missed a memo.

I say let them war with one another so long as our forces are kept safely out of it. If Israel attacks these ships without provocation in int'l waters like it did the USS Liberty decades ago, Israel deserves the response it provokes.

Saudi Arabia represents only 13% of imported oil, about half what Canada provides. It's not insignificant, sure, but worth keeping perspective on how "little" their oil means to the United States.

Idiots thump their chests over the "foreign oil" as code for anti-Semitic hatred of Arabs in the Middle East without realizing how little American really depends upon oil from that part of the world.

Israel (and any serious geopolitical observer) is not concerned with the non-existent military threat these 2 Iranian vessels pose. I believe what has got Israel bent out of shape is that one of those Iranian naval vessels is the Khrag, its largest supply vessel.

Want to make any wagers on what is in the Khrag’s cargo holds. I bet a bunch of goodies for Hezbollah. This smells like a massive resupply for Hezbollah and because it’s an Iranian Navy vessel and not an Iranian flagged commercial vessel, boarding the vessel for inspection is, well, tricky.

Interesting thoughts. I was unaware that one was a cargo ship.

Thanks.

I’m all for it. I’m also all for the USA taking care of its internal woes now, before we go bankrupt. Once we are energy independent, as far as I’m concerned all of the ME countries can go toe to toe on their own. I’m more than tired of being expected to pay out money I don’t have to give to other countries that basically want no parts of me.

LOL. One of the interesting characteristics of the Suez Canal is that it’s a “flat” canal — meaning it connects the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea though a waterway system that has no locks or dams.

I did not know that. Thanks!

Back in the 70’s there was a proposal to build a similar canal across southern Nicaragua to replace the Panama Canal. They were going to blast it in from both coasts towards Lake Managua using nuclear weapons. Can’t imagine why the locals didn’t go for that.

I was just stating my opinion, too . . . I hardly consider it “mocking God” when I suggest that a modern, secular state in the Middle East that isn’t any different than any other modern, secular state that doesn’t call itself “Israel” has no special role in a Divine plan.
