Update: From a CNN spokesperson:
The photo, which CBS said was taken before the attack, was being used on our air as we reported about the sexual assault. We made a network-wide editorial decision to blur the faces of those around Logan because we didnt know if those in the photograph were involved in the attack, or not.
Original Post: In an odd decision, CNN decided to blur out the faces of the people behind Lara Logan in the widely disseminated photo taken shortly before her assault in Cairo.
The photo was sent widely by CBS News, and was published without alteration by hundreds of media outlets.
Or as The LA Times Scott Collins writes:
The reason for the choice is unclear. It is possible that CNN worried about legal liability despite the fact that the image was taken in a public place during a thronged demonstration of pressing international interest and had been distributed through a wire service. By partly obscuring the image, CNN tampered with the journalistic record without explanation, leaving it to viewers to guess whether the network intended to protect or incriminate the figures in the background.
LOL!!!!
Let's see...
Woman? Check.
Blond? Check.
Foreign? Uh, she's blond - DOH! Check.
Infidel? Uh, gee, she's blond and foreign - Check.
Foreign infidel women are all whores? Koran says: CHECK!
Whip'em out, boys!
Seriously, I'm not of the "she asked for it" school of thought regarding rape, but you have to be pretty f'ing stoooooopid to send an attractive blond woman to any Moslem country that's in the middle of rioting/revolution without an armed escort, and to simultaneously expect that she'll return in the same condition as she went. She's even more stooooopid for going into the crowd. I wonder if she thinks that covering this story was worth getting raped over.
This would have been a perfect gig for Helen Thomas. What was CBS thinking?
It was explicitly stated in at least one report (yesterday’s WSJ) that the sexpot, ahem, reporter, was not raped!
Yes, and yes.
That these were just muslims being muslims and gang raping Chriswtian women is just part of their cultural tradition
You got it.
I’ll agree that it is bad that this happened to her but she obviously never learned the meaning of the saying “you don’t want to bleed in front of sharks”.
Raped, felt-up, groped, whatever (and obviously the first of these is the worst) - you don’t send nice-looking blond western women into the middle of crowds full of young Moslem men on their territory in the middle of riots, revolutions or celebrations of any kind. It just ain’t too smart. Frankly, she’s lucky to have escaped with her life.
“Was Mohammad in the pic?”
Quick! Everyone stick your head in the sand!
: )
I think they just don’t want to admit that the perps are all “swarthies”...
Helen is too cagey to go. She understands what you don’t: Being Helen Thomas might not have stopped the rioters.
The word on the street is that some of the rioters were carrying paper bags in case Helen Thomas or Maxine Waters showed up and needed to be raped
Who’s giving her “bunny ears”?
Is this photo before or after the assault?
Some of those guys are probably her security detail. I suspect they’re the scared-looking ones. They can tell something is getting ready to happen.
I am wondering; the soldiers/women who rescued the reporter saw the rapists and could testify.
Will the rapists be brought to justice in Egypt
or let off?
Three bags each?
What justice? Under Islamic law, they did nothing wrong.
SOmeone already kind of said this above but WHAT THE FU**??? Why are they protecting muzzies but if it were Tea Partiers we’d probably know their names by now????
“With all due respect, sending her into the middle of a rioting crowd - especially a rioting Muslim crowd - is a kamikaze mission.”
Watch it pal, there’s a feminist wing of FR that wants it perfectly clear that the ONLY people to blame are the attackers. I guess they reason that if we all condemn the attackers, then they will be shamed into not doing it again (or the Brotherhood will be shamed into punishing them - LOL). So don’t you dare imply that her going in there, in those clothes, with that jewelry, in that society, in those conditions, had ANYTHING at all to do with it. It could have happened in a Tea Party town. (LOL)
