Update: From a CNN spokesperson:
The photo, which CBS said was taken before the attack, was being used on our air as we reported about the sexual assault. We made a network-wide editorial decision to blur the faces of those around Logan because we didnt know if those in the photograph were involved in the attack, or not.
Original Post: In an odd decision, CNN decided to blur out the faces of the people behind Lara Logan in the widely disseminated photo taken shortly before her assault in Cairo.
The photo was sent widely by CBS News, and was published without alteration by hundreds of media outlets.
Or as The LA Times Scott Collins writes:
The reason for the choice is unclear. It is possible that CNN worried about legal liability despite the fact that the image was taken in a public place during a thronged demonstration of pressing international interest and had been distributed through a wire service. By partly obscuring the image, CNN tampered with the journalistic record without explanation, leaving it to viewers to guess whether the network intended to protect or incriminate the figures in the background.
Bet they wouldn’t do that if someone made the same claim about a Tea Party mob.
We have to protect their self-esteem.
Was Mohammad in the pic?
What did she do to deserve the rape? Fail to wear a headscarf? Show ankle? Walk around without a male relative?
Well, the Islamic Courts of Egypt should find her guilty of Adultery (unless she can find three witnesses) and have her stoned to death.

Naw. I think it's cuz' they're worried about one a them 'fatwad' things bein' put out on 'em by them moozlimbs...
Knowing how much the left loves the jihadis, it must be because they are being sensitive to their delicate feelings. Can’t embarrass them. Can’t hurt their self-esteem.
“Was Mohammad in the pic?”
Why was someone raping a camel?
If it’s only being shown on CBS and CNN, no one is going to see it.
When I first read the title I thought the blurred her face as the victim. The fact that they are doing it to protect everyone but her is strange.
Well, she wasn’t dressed like that! But still, CBS was desperate to make this look like peace-loving flower-power supporters of “democracy” frolicking about, and I think they left their reporters at the mercy of the mob. She was one of a group and got separated...the others appear to have prudently run for their lives.
What’s your point? That these were just Muslims being Muslims and gang raping Chriswtian women is just part of their cultural tradition?
CNN execs have no problem sending a reporter into a mob of filthy muzzie savages but they’re not going to stick their own necks out by publishing the photo of same.
Damn it! NASA's not doing their job!
Let's see...
Woman? Check.
Blond? Check.
Foreign? Uh, she's blond - DOH! Check.
Infidel? Uh, gee, she's blond and foreign - Check.
Foreign infidel women are all whores? Koran says: CHECK!
Whip'em out, boys!
Seriously, I'm not of the "she asked for it" school of thought regarding rape, but you have to be pretty f'ing stoooooopid to send an attractive blond woman to any Moslem country that's in the middle of rioting/revolution without an armed escort, and to simultaneously expect that she'll return in the same condition as she went. She's even more stooooopid for going into the crowd. I wonder if she thinks that covering this story was worth getting raped over.
I would say that was the poster’s point, although it’s probably less related to her being a Chriswtian (?) woman, if she is one, than an attractive blonde woman - heck, any woman - with inadequate protection.
