MADISON, Wis. A group of Wisconsin lawmakers blocked passage of a sweeping anti-union bill Thursday by ignoring orders to attend a vote and instead left the state to force Republicans to negotiate over the proposal.
As ever-growing throngs of protesters filled the Capitol for a third day, the 14 Democrats disappeared from the Capitol. They were not in their offices, and aides said they did not know where any of them had gone.
Hours later, one of them told The Associated Press that the group had left Wisconsin.
Sen. Jon Erpenbach said Democrats fled to slow down consideration of the bill in the hopes that Republican Gov. Scott Walker and GOP lawmakers would discuss changes.

We have no leadership in this country anymore. Just a bunch of thugs. God help us if we don’t take control.
See, nothing in the bill forbids the rights of union members. It is NOT an anti-union bill.
It only asks the unions (like every one else) to be held accountable.
Guess they’re just voting “Present” like our beloved president. (sarc)
Sixties revisited.
can their pay checks be held???? until they return for a vote...
hold the vote first thing when they return...lets see names????
this should affect their future elections...vote all Democrats out of office.
The Dems in all other state and federal offices should follow the lead of their comrades in Wisconsin to relieve us of their meddling.
Dear Sen. Holperin,I tried calling your office, but apparently you've bugged out of the State rather than doing your job!
Get your butt back to the Capitol and take care of the people's business.
We're not paying you to run and hide!!
I would bet that they used a school bus and that might be theft of public property.
They have taken a page out of the book the crying democraps followed here in Texas a few years back (during congressional redistricting)... first they took off to OK then again to NM.
It will be just a matter of time before they face the music... face it now or later... they cannot escape... EVER.
If the shoe were on the other foot, the Democrats would send in a ringer posing a certain Republican representative, accept his “credentials” by unamous acclaim and get on with business.
I fear we are seeing its death throes.
Shoot, i would wait them out. You know one will have to come back for something.
Meanwhile the schools are closed because the Democrats fled the state.
Yup, first the dim house reps fled to Ardmore OK, and then the senate dims went to NM. It was during the redistricting in Texas. I think that is why I joined FR.
I posted some FR links about the dim flight on another thread.

The schools are closed because the teachers have abandoned their offices and abused sick leave policy. Any teacher who called in sick and is subsequently filmed at a political rally at the statehouse should be fired, forthwith.
Why dont the Republicans reciprocate when a democrat favorite is up for a vote?

Kind of hard to do that when you are stuck with an ‘unfavorable’ media.
What is being treated now as a ‘joke’ and if the R Governor acts to do something the screams will be resounding.
Of course, if the R’s did it, they would be charged with treason and a D Governor would take action to run the ‘Rs’ out of town on a rail- and get away with it.
After almost 40 years of D rule in MD when Bob Ehrlich was elected he tried to thin the ranks and get some ‘friendly’ faces to work with.
He spent his 4 years being charged with all kinds of law breaking etc...
Kind of imagine when O’Malley took over, he put his people in BUT very little was said about it.
Wait ‘em out!
Unlike with the Texas cowards, it will be almost an entire year before the current legislative session ends AND with the pubbies in charge, they can “stay open for business” continually, right until the next session is sworn in.
The bill “assumes” to be passed.
Isn’t that how Bella Lugosi...er..I mean Nancy Pelosi does it.
