MADISON, Wis. — Police officers are looking for Democratic Wisconsin lawmakers who were ordered to attend a vote on a bill that would strip public employees of collective bargaining rights.

No Democrats showed up for Thursday's Senate session, meaning a vote cannot be taken. Republicans need one Democratic senator to be present. Calls to Democratic leaders were not immediately returned.

Republicans are pushing the anti-union bill proposed by GOP Gov. Scott Walker. Thousands of people clogged the halls of the Statehouse for a third straight day in opposition.

Protesters clogged the hallways of the Wisconsin state Capitol on Thursday as the Senate prepared to pass a momentous bill that would strip government workers, including school teachers, of nearly all collective bargaining rights.

Most businesses consider 3 days of no contact from an employee as “Job Abandonment”. Not even able to get unemployment for that!

This is just the opposite of the way the Democrats passed Cap and trade (in the House) and Obamacare. In those cases, they held votes at three in the morning, on short notice, so that Republicans couldn’t vote.

There was a time when the Democratic party at least pretended to believe in the democratic process.

I must admit I haven’t been following this very closely. If the dems have the majority, why not just vote “NO” and defeat the bill if they don’t like it?

Not following at all I'd say. The breakdown of the WI legislature:

Assembly: Republicans - 19 Democrats - 14

Senate: Republicans - 60 Democrats - 38 Independents - 1

Give them their walking papers. When they try to come back; lock the doors. They don’t want to show up; they don’t want to do their job.

Nods. Yes Wisconsin was one of the REALLY big swings in November. And clearly, there are a LOT of people who do not like it when the shoe is on the other foot : |

Obama’s Organizing for America website...

“Fight for Our State Workers”
By *Mary Hough - Feb 17, 2011 11:45:00 AM ET

UPDATE: For the past two days, thousands of workers have been gathering at the State Capitol in Madison, WI, to defend their rights in the workplace. From nurses to police officers, public sector workers and OFA volunteers have been protesting against proposed legislation to take away workers’ rights to bargain collectively. With a vote on the legislation expected as early as today, volunteers are already gathering at the Capitol this morning. It’s going to be a big day in Madison and you can follow updates throughout the day on the OFA Wisconsin Twitter feed.

Organizing for America is mobilizing on the ground in Wisconsin to defend the rights of public employees from an attempt by the governor to take away their right to organize.

Jessie Lidbury, regional field organizer, explains why this is so important:

We’ve got a fight on our hands and it’s personal. Over the past few days serious developments have surfaced of Governor Scott Walker presenting a “Budget Repair Bill” that will essentially gut collective bargaining for public employees here in our own backyard of Wisconsin.

Over the next couple days nurses, teachers, snowplow drivers, prison guards, and public servants will be standing together to let Governor Walker, know what is at stake: livelihoods, heath care, our children’s education, and the rights of all workers.

Hough (Mary)

For those of you who criticize me...

For those of you who criticize me for supporting Barack Obama... Let me tell you something:

You must not know what it is like to leave home at 17, work your ass off for years, and still have nothing to show for it.

You must not know what it is like to go to bed every night for 3 years with a man you’re not in love with simply because you have no money or means to leave.

You must not know what it’s like to be 3 months pregnant and miscarry and then be haunted every damn day by your outstanding medical bills that you just can’t pay.

You must not know what it is like to be turned down for financial aid because you made $10,000 dollars in all last year and George W. Bush thinks that’s too much.

You must not know what it is like to struggle every day of your life with no end to the tunnel.

If you do know what that’s like then how dare you judge me for not just wanting change, but desperately needing it to survive.

About me:
I am 22 and currently going to school full time to become a Medical Sonographer. I also work part-time as a Chiropractic assistant at Keefe Clinic. My best friend is my kitty cat, Lili, and my little dog, Honey, comes in a close second. Sad, I know, but they’re like my children. It’s funny looking back on the past year to see how much life changes. Iv’e learned that you have to change with it or you will get left behind. I think with the things that I have experienced that somewhere along the way I lost myself, so I am now dedicated to finding out who Mary is. It’s hard to let go of past relationships and move on without people who were once your’e saving grace but that doesn’t mean that theyr’e friendships didn’t leave a lasting impression on the heart. I can truly look you in the eye and say “I’m happy now” which hasn’t really ever been the case for me. I’m blessed with an amazing and kind and understanding boyfriend, Tim, who has taken on 2 jobs to put me through school. He is my saving grace now. I love my enormous family and I truly feel blessed just to know them much less be related to them. In my spare time you can find me shakin’ my ass at a Horny Toad Show listening and awing at my extremely talented guitar playing dad. I just want to enjoy every second of my life, otherwise, what’s the point? .. .. .. .. .. ..

Maybe we need a national APB on these 14 missing rats. They are probably out of state now. If we can get their pictures in an email and sent to conservative groups across the country, perhaps a tea party member might spot one of them and call the authorities. All they need is one to be rounded up.

Good grief- now they’ve left the STATE?!

Law enforcement officials are looking for at least one Democratic senator to bring in for a quorum required for a fiscal measure, but River Hills Republican Senator Alberta Darling claimed to Newsradio 620 WTMJ that all the Democrats got on one bus and left the state.

Ah... I see. I had assumed the assembly to be bigger than that, and 19 Republicans would’ve been the minority.

Thanks!

But Michael Langyel, head of the Milwaukee Teachers Education Association, said Walker and Republican lawmakers are asking public employees to give up more than everyone else.

“If people say the only way to solve this budget crisis is to take away from people who are working hard, they are wrong. We believe that we have a right to have a fair wage for our hard work. More importantly, the collective bargaining process allows us to positively impact school policy issues. We are the advocates for our students, and we will maintain our voice in defending our students,” he told Fox News.

Langyel added that if Walker wants to balance the budget, he should force his friends to pay more.

“There are many people who support the governor who contribute nothing and pay nothing and are not contributing. This is the time to have fair taxation in the state of Wisconsin, where the friends of the governors do not get a free ride and the hard-working people have to carry the extra burden,” he said.

Speaking Wednesday to WTMJ4 in Milwaukee, President Obama weighed into the debate, saying that making it harder for public employees to collectively bargain “seems like more of an assault on unions.”

“I think it is very important for us to understand that public employees, they’re our neighbors, they’re our friends,” he said. “These are folks who are teachers and they’re firefighters and they’re social workers and they’re police officers.”

It is important “not to vilify them or to suggest that somehow all these budget problems are due to public employees,” Obama said.

Er push match........I hope it’s a slug fest!

Slug fest would be appropriate. I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. Big union town. I saw the intimidation tactics many, many times as the unions sought to beat their adversaries physically when they couldn't win on logic. I got into a nice little scuffle with a couple of union members some 30 years ago, because I wouldn't toe the union line. Fortunately, I had a few friends around and things got stopped rather quickly. I was, unfortunately, outnumbered.

Anyway, I wouldn't be too upset if things got a little rough and some union thugs got their heads busted open. I wouldn't shed a tear for the commie thugs. They've been robbing me blind for decades, living off the taxes stolen from me over the years.

Okay, so why can't one Republican switch parties and become a Democrat for a day or two?

The idea is interesting, probably could be done if properly executed and Pubbies have a majority of more than one.
