Bedouin tribes accuse Jordan's Queen Rania of corruption

In an unprecedented move the leaders of Jordan's main Bedouin tribes have published an open letter addressed to King Abdullah II accusing his wife, Queen Rania, of corruption. The text, released on 5 February, is signed by 36 representatives of the main Bedouin tribes. It comes at a particularly difficult time for the king, whose authority has been sapped by the growing discontent voiced by demonstrators.

The letter makes no direct reference to the issue of the country's fragile ethnic balance, but claims that the queen, of Palestinian parentage, has created centres of power serving her own interests. This trend upsets the agreement on governance between native Jordanians and the royal family, posing a threat for the monarchy.

"We call on the king to return to the treasury land and farms given to the [queen's] Yasin family. The land belongs to the Jordanian people," the letter demands.

You are correct, of course. It is a vast and inacurate oversimplification. Care to take a shot at explaining why the King of Jordan, whose family is not from Jordan, married a woman who's family is kind of from Jordan, but not the right kind, for political reasons? Though as several people on this thread have pointed out if you had to marry someone for political reasons she's not a bad looking choice.

It's the dictionary definition.  an·ti-Sem·ite  –noun a person who discriminates against or is prejudiced or hostile toward Jews. Origin: 1880–85 http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/antisemitic While you and I know "semites" includes other peoples (e.g., arabs and other descendants of Shem), that is not the accepted definition. The Hashemites were the keepers of the Muslim holy places during WW1 and helped T.E. Lawrence AKA "Lawrence of Arabia" and the British to tie up a few german divisions. The British promised to make the Hashemites rulers of the peninsula but the Saudis rose up and ran the Hashemites out. The British then decided to give them Iraq and Trans-Jordon instead. They took the Trans-Jordan piece from lands promised to Israel.

Jordon was "Trans-Jordan" until the Israeli war of independence when Jordan crossed the river that had devided the two countries. When the Israelis finally kicked their butts, the Jordanians were in control of the "West Bank" and part of Jerusalem. They have claimed these lands as theirs until the PLO tried to kill the current king's father. Jordanians are just Arabs who live in Jordan. Palestinians are just Arabs that live in Palestine. By marying into a powerful Palestinian family, the current king probably hopes to avoid being killed by crazy Palestinians. His Grandfather was shot and killed on the steps of the Dome of the rock by the same crazies. She is hot and rich too.
