FreeRepublic Ping List Compilation
The Fish Blogs ^ | 2/15/11 | Pat Fish

Posted on 02/15/2011 2:58:21 PM PST by Fishtalk

Over the past few weeks I've been compiling various ping lists via requests on some of my Freep posts.

This is the first viewing offered.

It's sparse; I'm sure there's plenty more Freep ping lists out there. And it's not viewed by millions. But I will put the URL in my sig line when I post on FreeRepublic and I'm a frequent poster. I will also be designing a big banner on my sidebar for folks who read my regular Blog posts. Might get some attention.

There's instructions on the post how to add your ping list to this Blog but since you're reading this, just freepmail with a description of your ping list, a picture if you want one, and your Freepmail addy.

I have the "Hockey Ping List".

I keep it on my profile page, near the bottom, and it's up to date.

Click here for the 'Hockey Ping List'

(if you want on or off the list, just ask)

Have you ranked the PING Lists by size of the PING List? I know which PING List is #1 by far but I am too (BLUSH!) modest to mention it. BTW, a close second would be The Coupon Whisperer Ping list so you might want to add that on to your list.

Alright! No one’s compiled an updated one in ages! Thanks Fishtalk!

The Cryptobiology list seems to be inactive, but neither do I remember who took it over... let’s see...

dragonblustar — took over from pcottraux, who nevertheless never dropped the membership list from his FR profile page:

http://www.freerepublic.com/~pcottraux/

Also, the excellent APOD (Astronomy Picture of the Day) is inactive, the last of the pingmeisters got fed up with the anti-NRA stuff.

I hope FR gets some new members thru your blog and of course that you get some more hits to your blog!

I have not ranked the ping list by size but I could!

That’s the beauty of the spreadsheet, I can sort by any column. Although how would I determine the size of a ping list?

But yes, I could quite easily create another table with a column containing the size, sort it by same, and add it below the ping list now sorted by TYPE.

I have 3 ping lists, the biggest by far is the Military ping list I use when posting Military Mondays. It used to be a regular thread but now is only posted at special occasions like Veterans day, Memorial days like that.

Second is the Daily Bread list usually posted daily in Amy’s thread to start everyone’s day off right.

Third is a Western New York ping list.

Thanks for your good work on this list, I know it is not an easy job to do and hardest of all to maintain.

My number one goal before I would even attempt such a thing, was to create a ping list compilation that can be easily maintained. I think my spreadsheet methodology does that, and much more.

I am perfectly willing to keep the list so long as I live as I’ve been a Freeper for ten years and not likely to quit any time soon. I don’t care about hits to my Blog, despite would the Blog haters would have you believe, there’s no huge return for pimping your Blog on Freerepublic, or anywhere else. You Blog cause you love to Blog....but maybe you hadda be there.

One thing I didn’t add in my earlier missive was, for now, the fact that I am unable to put two contact links/attribution for a single ping list. This requires adding a column to my spreadsheet and to do that would push it off the screen.

In the future I intend to move the whole thing to a separate Blog because my Blog has sidebars and all kinda stuff, as Blogs tend to get over time. I don’t want to change my Blog to suit the ping list but I am willing to create a Blog without all the frou-frou that will take additional columns. Or maybe, after time and with proof of success, it could somehow be incorporated into Freerepublic...but that’s far off. I just think it’s needed is all, and if I can make it happen without making a career of it, so I shall.

The attribution is but a way for an interested party to contact a ping list owner. You can claim your own glory/duplicate glory on your ping list proper. This list is to give a way for someone to contact a Freeper about joining the ping list so bear with me.

This will work, I am sure of it.

Which brings me to one point on your post Mr. Mayor,...is your Daily Bread list a ping list I should include with YOU as the contact...because I can’t do BOTH you and Amy as contacts for the Daily Bread. If I put you as contact, an interested party would contact you and then you could direct them to your Daily Bread list, wherever it’s at.

Check out the link, though, because I remember putting up a ping list for a Mayor type of name.

Minor tweak on mine. Today’s Toons rather than Pookie’s Toons. Also, don’t know if case matters, but it’s pookie18. Thanks!

Since I’m on your ping list I scrolled down and checked. You do call it TODAY’S TUNES, I hadn’t noticed. I always think of it as Pookie’s Tunes.

I’ll fix it but I like Pookie’s Tunes better. ;)

Even though I sometimes have click-on music, I still call it Today’s Toons as opposed to Today’s Tunes ;-)

I maintain three lists as of now:

The Apple / iPhone / iPad / Mac list

The Electric Universe list ( that should be listed under both cosmology and science as well as catastrphism and perhaps history and mythology as well)

The Shroud of Turin list ( that should be listed under religion and science and perhaps history)

BTT Will try and get a look later...IF my vision clears up, I’ve had to enlarge the screen again...I think the cataract implant is forming that film as I got up with blurred vision in that eye this morning.

Although how would I determine the size of a ping list?

We just report it to you. For example the MASSIVE DUmmie FUnnies PING List currently weighs in at a COLOSSAL 1057 PINGEEs. No other PING List is even close although my Coupon Whisperer PING List just might be in contention for the #2 spot at 269 PINGEEs.

Can you add the "Weekly Gardening Thread" to your list of ping lists. I maintain the list and post the thread every Friday morning. It continues to receive comments and posts all during the week until the next new thread shows up on Friday. There are currently 443 Freepers on the list.

Link to the Weekly Gardening Thread

I would be interested in seeing your Excel spread sheet. My version of Excel is 2000. Will your spread sheet work on it? I used to do very complicated spread sheets in the past.

Thanks, Red_Devil 232

Is there an updated list of the lists? I have written a script that makes some maintenance of ping lists easier, and was wondering how to go about publicizing that piece of information.

Sorry. This is the “latest” list that I have but I use the word LATEST softly. After I compiled this list I got no more notification for updates or additions.

BLOGGER changes its format in the middle of all this and I couldn’t get the Excel table format to work. Thus a good intention got stymied.

But it IS something.

Why not just put a post in the BLOGGERS&PERSONAL part of FR? I think most of those ping list owners would see it.
