Argentina Confiscates U.S. Air Force Cargo

Argentina's relations with the U.S. worsened sharply Monday as the South American country continued to hold military equipment it confiscated last week from a U.S. Air Force C-17 transport plane sent as part of a training course for local police.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Arturo Valenzuela, called on Argentina to return the property without delay.

"It's absolutely necessary that they immediately return that material. It makes no sense for it to have been confiscated this way. This material was intended for a joint exercise in training people to rescue hostages," Mr. Valenzuela Monday said on CNN en Espanol.

A State Department official familiar with the seizure told Dow Jones Newswires most of the material, which was intended for use in a hostage-rescue course, had been properly declared and previously approved by Argentine authorities.

The only thing that hadn't been declared was the medication confiscated at the airport, said the official, who asked to remain anonymous because of the delicate nature of the issue.

The medication, including morphine, is part of a first aid kit belonging to an Army medic who participates in the training courses, the official said.

Now even third rate, bankrupt countries spit on the US. “Mission Accomplished” for Obama.

Relations between Argentina and the U.S. have deteriorated rapidly since U.S. President Barack Obama said in January that he would visit El Salvador, Brazil and Chile next month, skipping Argentina.

The real reason for this broad-daylight theft.

Somebody’s feeling his oats, looks like. Not sure exactly who, but this would not have happened under Dubya or Ronaldus Magnus.

Pray tell, what would Obama do about it?
He doesn’t give a damn about this country’s standing in the world.

Gee, we heard news last week that Britain is losing its blue water fleet due to cut-backs.
Now, Argentina is thumbing its military nose at Obama and our military.
Can anyone say Falklands II?

If he bows and scrapes enough maybe they’ll call us a few bad names and give some of the stuff back.

So, material that was to be used in training how to rescue hostages, is being held hostage?

Does this mean that we are going to quit borrowing money from China to give to Argentina?

We need to immediately send Madonna on a diplomatic mission to Argentina! She has the right credentials, no? Not Evita but playing a Peron has got to count for something.

Tin foil websites are spinning this seizure as a CIA plane carrying weapons and drugs.

Can anyone say Falklands II?

They threatened that a year or so ago over oil fields that the British are developing in the area. Soon Britian will lack the navy and we will lack the resolve to stop them.

In the “bad old days”, the matter might well have been settled by resort to one or another piece of field craft intelligence, whose existence would be quietly communicated to the affected party in such a manner as to make it clear that we meant business. A high-ranking diplomat in New York, captured on film cavorting after hours with prostitutes would perhaps suffice. It worked both ways, of course, and tended to keep relations cordial at a higher level.

"Pray tell, what would Obama do about it? He doesn’t give a damn about this country’s standing in the world.ing about this."

I wasn't suggesting that Obama do anything about this. This fits well with his lowering the US to be just one more country among many. He will be happy to see more countries kick sand or worse in our faces. Now a real American President could do something about this, but we don't have one.

This makes me wonder which is more expensive... the impounded equipment, or a cruise missile?

The shortest war in history was the Anglo-Zanzibar War of 1896. It lasted 40 minutes.

The Sultan of Zanzibar passed away and the man who then ascended to the throne was not to Britain's liking. Britain announced a deadline by which their chosen man was to be installed on the throne. The deadline was 9 AM on a certain day. At 9 AM, the British fleet began shelling the palace and surrounding neighborhood. Zanzibar surrendered at 9:40.

Just saying.

If Argentina seized the Falkland Islands based solely on its location (400 miles from Argentina’s coast) then the U.S.A. has the right to seize Cuba (90 miles from our coast).

The people of the Falkland Islands are descended from British settlers who established farms on uninhabited islands in the south Atlantic. Those islands have no past ties to Argentina at all. The people there are self-governing and English speaking.

Somebody’s feeling his oats big time.

Iran, Muslim brotherhood, china, mexican narco gangs, and now Argentina.

They have figured out that nobama’s priority is to destroy his internal political enemies and fundamentally weaken this country while ignoring external threats and events.
