Bieber fans go on Grammy-fueled Wikipedia rampage
MSNBC ^ | 02/14/2011 | Helen A.S. Popkin

The quintessential Wikipedia editor is a 25-year-old guy, a graduate student and typically overrepresented in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Except for maybe in the last 24 hours. Apoplectic over bassist and vocalist Esperanza Spalding's dark horse win for Best New Artist Grammy, beating out Justin Bieber, True Beliebers took to Wikipedia to vent their rage over this shocking injustice.

While there’s no quick way to prove that the more than 90 edits made on Spalding’s Wikipedia entry in the hours following her win were largely the work of adolescent girls, much of the handiwork is in the now-notorious style of today’s refined young ladies of the Internet.

"JUSTIN BIEBER DESERVED IT GO DIE IN A HOLE. WHO THE HECK ARE YOU ANYWAY?" is just one of the un-annotated "facts"added since to Spalding’s entry last night. "SHE IS F****** REATARD," is another of the whimsical turns of phrase (with spelling to match!), added, and since edited from the post. And according to one helpful editor, Spalding’s middle name was, ever so briefly, "Quesadilla."

To be fair, not all of the offending Wikipedia edits dripped with hormones and poorly-blended eye shadow. Trolls were quick to bait Beliebers with anti-Bieber jabs; several tinged with the homophobia typical of the Internet and often attributed to males. "HaHa Justin Bieber, you're just a little boy with no Grammy for Best New Artist.irehjbpojeh[ker" represents a more polite example of Bieber-losing Schadenfreude added and then edited.

Wikipedia is a joke.

Half the time the information is either wrong, or has negative ‘slant’ depending what it is.

I found quite a few entries for different artists totally wrong on dates and appearances.

Sheesh. Not all that surprising though. Anybody can edit Wiki. Wiki is useful for looking up neutral topics like the chocolate manufacturing process or the geography of Ireland, but I never trust them on hot social or political topics....

Wikipedia is fine if you're looking up a completely benign, uncontroversial subject like, say, pencils.

Anything even mildly political or religious: Wikipedia is crap and completely untrustworthy.

Zzzzzzz...... snort... urp.... er whaddup? Oh? 15 year old “artists”?........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...............

There’s nothing as uninteresting as the angst of teenagers whose worst trial in life was that their mommy wouldn’t let them have Pop-Tarts for breakfast.

I know.

Even different ‘artists’ that I’ve looked up have a ‘negative spin’ on entries.

Most of the time you can tell someone ‘edited’ it added their ‘spin’ to it.

I’ve ‘corrected’ a few.

Besides. I’m not even sure I’d trust and entry on ‘pencils’.

They’d probably call a ‘No.2’ pencil a ‘No.1’, just to be spiteful.

sometimes the Grammys may launch a performer’s career, it really put Ricky Martin on the map a few years ago.

I had never heard of Esperanza until the show, then I saw her win, saw her videos, and this chick is talented, a young female bass cello player (usually dominated by males), with a silky voice....awesome.

the fact that anyone thinks that 16 yo Bieber who can only sing “baby baby baby” is talented, you are a nutty adolescent idiotic liberal. but i repeat myself.

that said...did you all catch Mumford and Sons....holy moly, talk about talented, they blew me away....their CD suddenly is number one today on Amazon, all due to this performance.....they SHOULD have one the best new artist category, even more so than Esperanza...it gives you hope that there is still true muscial talent and not just fluff in the music industry today.

Is there anyone over age 12 who wouldn’t be embarrassed to admit being a Bieber fan?

‘The studio has been screening the movie (Never Say Never) for many Christian faith leaders in hopes that the film will attract a religious audience, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Bieber is quite vocal about his faith during interview, and you can see it as well throughout the film. Many times, Bieber is seen praying before a concert or talking about God as his inspiration.’

I don’t care for his type of music, but I’m inclined to cut the boy a little slack.
Maybe he could possibly have some positive influence on the young people.

I’m sure Ms. Spaulding is very talented, but everything I know about her I derive from the photo above, where she is obviously pinching off a loaf, if you can dig it.
