Hosni Mubarak's departure from power does little to address the fundamental issues that brought protesters to Cairo's Tahrir Square for the past 18 days. In fact, their protests were never about Mubarak but about a sclerotic political system and an economic system that was full of cronyism and corruption.
Mubarak sustained that system, but its backbone was always the Egyptian military. Mubarak nurtured the military, from which he came, and the military preserved him. Although the officers behind Egypt's 1952 revolution abandoned their uniforms long ago, Egypt's rulers have been generals in suits for decades.

Now we find this out. /s
Yup, it's not about one man -- it's about the entire system. Now, they will tear it all down and replace it with a theocracy. And the world will rejoice. [/s]
this is the perfect set up to usher in the MB....waiting in the wings when the people see that the changes they wanted are not only NOT going to happen, but things are going to get more restrictive.... I sincerely believe obamanation knew this and can hardly wait.... but hopes it will happen AFTER he runs for his second term
so instead of an 80 year old, they got some 70 year olds, good going
Hey, it worked for the Soviet Union! [/s]
Wow, so the MSM is concerned that Egypt’s new military-run government won’t be accommodating Islamic extremist factions. What’s the next step then.
The MSM and Obama will work hand-in-glove to ensure the Muslims run Egypt.
so what do ya think? the CIA froze the billions in Swiss bank accouts, promised it to the military, bundled Mubarak out the back door, and now any day we’ll hear he is deceased?
I love the way these Journalists in DC are so sure of themselves that they can just make up the facts as they go along. And they know nobody will bat an eyelash. Wink. Wink.
Mubarak knew perfectly well that this was not the outcome that Barry wanted (for the military to take over overtly), and I think he finally agreed to leave personally so that the army could step forward.
Obama wants the MB. Heck, even John McCain, bootlicking old fool that he is, came out today and said that there’s nothing to fear from the MB and they should be part of Egypt’s future. Between the evil ones and the idiots, it’s hard to say who’s worse.
Chip, chip, chip...
The WaPo can’t wait until they destroy the stabilizing military over in Egypt. Until a radical Muslim theocracy takes hold, they aren’t going to get a minutes sleep.
All intermediate stages will be found wanting, but once the Caliphate is re-established, the MSM will declare it double-plus good.
The struggle to take control of the military is beginning. The Muslim brotherhood will be resisted for awhile if they don't offer the military insiders the ability to keep their riches and perks.
Offering that, the MB will control Egypt shortly, the peace with Israel will fade, but not be officially repudiated, Egyptians will be thrown against the Israeli border as publicity cannon fodder, and the demonizing of Israel/IDF will jump.
Not at all what the demonstrators expected.
Agreed. And evidently Iran is arresting a number of people today. And from Obama... crickets.
Yea, Mubarak is out, time for a new kleptocrat to take over. Although I doubt the new one will be as good (or bad) as Mubarak (70 BILLION!!!..yikes). Either that or some Muslim Brotherhood lunatic who will declare war on Israel and get thousands or millions of his countrymen killed in the process. I’m hoping against reality that something good will come out of this revolution.
"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."The only thing new about this insurrection is that a new group of fools are involved.
