Thousands of protesters gathered in Yemen's capital, Sana'a, Saturday to celebrate the resignation of Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak and call for their own president, Ali Abdullah Saleh, to step down.

The protesters began marching toward the Egyptian embassy but were confronted and pushed back by a group of men armed with sticks. There were conflicting reports as to whether the armed men were police or government supporters.

The gathering points for Saturday's protests were Sana'a University and the city's Tahrir Square, which bears the same name as the rallying point for the protests in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

There is obviously two camps here on Freepers. Those who support these uprisings and those who don’t.

I was under the impression that we supported the people rising up - no matter who those people are.

A lot - A LOT - of assumptions are being made within this group that just because these are Muslims they can’t possibly be on the right side of revolution.

I disagree.

This is a social revolution - this is being brought about by the young people in these countries. They want a better life - a better economy - they are tired of the old ways.

I don’t think you will reap the benefits of a better ecnonomy if you are at war with Israel and the U.S.A.

Let’s give the people the benefit of the doubt -

I support freedome - I support people who want liberty from dictators.

Will it be easy? No. Will there be problems along the way? Yes.

America wasn’t born overnight. These democracies won’t be born overnight.

You take steps - many many steps - to get from point A to B.

I support all of the uprisings. I hope the Iranian youth are listening - take to the streets - overthrow your government.

It is the only way

I am ashamed and embarrassed by the lack of knowledge among our fellow posters here on Freepers. You are on the wrong side of history and don’t even know it.

I thought THIS was the forum for freedom and liberty.

Sad days on Free Republic.

This is a social revolution which is being FORMALLY ORGANIZED and funded by 1. Google, 2. Twitter 3. World Bank has presence 4. Our State dept is funding & involved 5 probably soros, but looking up the proof 6. News Outlets.

Want proof:

Movement.org aka Alliance for Youth Movement has a website which has networked all executives and resources from technology to push these movements:

http://www.movements.org/pages/sponsors (Scroll down for State Department seal of Sponsor)

http://www.movements.org/pages/the-summit#2008

Here’s a list of who was at the summit discussing using technology for social change and demonstration (quite a few gov’t employees)

http://allyoumov.3cdn.net/f734ac45131b2bbcdb_w6m6idptn.pdf

Here’s what one AYM had to say:

http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2010-03/10/meet-the-worlds-youth-activists

I’m at the Alliance for Youth Movements (AYM) summit in London, at the Intercontinental Hotel. The two-day summit, which ends tomorrow, is an impressive gathering of youth activists from more than 18 countries, NGOs and tech giants, here to learn more about using online tools to promote their extraordinary range of social movements and promote non-violent change. You can read more about the AYM here.

At the opening reception last night, hosted at Google’s headquarters, I met a smart bunch of people from organizations such as Blue State Digital (which ran Obama’s online campaign), Howcast, Middle East peace activists One Voice, and the East London-based Young Foundation.

But the highlight is an A-list bunch of conference speakers at the conference today and tomorrow — including Jack Dorsey of Twitter, Sir Martin Sorrell of WPP, Scott Heiferman of MeetUp, as well as top people from Google, YouTube and the World Bank. Other keynote speakers include Jeremy Gilley, the former actor who founded Peace One Day, and Joe Rospars, who was the new-media director for Obama for America.

There’s strong representation here from Washington DC. This morning, Jared Cohen, of the US State Department, moderated a session titled Seizing the Moment: Responding to Crises and Mobilizing Around Key Events. That had speakers from Mobile Accord, Ushahidi, Mazahery Law, AccessNow and the Censorship Research Center. I’m now sitting in a session called Turning Video into Tangible Action, featuring experts such as Ramya Raghaven of YouTube, Levi Felix of Causecast, and Chris Sarette, Invisible Children.

There’s much discussion of how to produce a viral video to spread the word about an urgent crisis — a panelist who’s involved in the Robin Hood Tax campaign (to promote a redistributive 0.05% tax on final transactions) is currently explaining how getting the help of director Richard Curtis helped the campaign soar.

......

A couple of more articles regarding this whole package deal:

http://bbnworldnews.com/newspost/googles-revolution-factory-alliance-of-youth-movements-color-revolution-2-0/

http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2011/02/the-idealism-clinic-on-the-origins-of-egypts-revolution/71132/

It’s a mob mentality, that’s all.

You are forgetting one thing.

The media is always wrong. And they will be again this time.

Hizb ut-Tahrir - an international pan-Islamic political organisation whose goal is for all Muslim countries to unify as an Islamic state or caliphate ruled by Islamic law

Sounds to me like you're a day late and a dollar short. Some of us have been talking about them for a while now.

I support all of the uprisings.

Pure unadulterated idiocy. That's like voting for Obama because he's going to bring "change". Adolph Hitler promised freedom and social justice too.
